With a below expected show at the recently held Asia Cup 2022 in UAE, India deputy skipper, KL Rahul has been receiving wide criticism as an opener and also with his strike rate.

“What criticism?” KL Rahul instinctively asked when he was asked about his T20 strike rate hype. Moreover, Rahul shrugged off questions surrounding himself at the position in which he plays in the format, he said that strike rate doesn’t tell you the entire story, however, he added that “it is something” he is working on.

“Strike-rates are taken on an overall basis. You never see when that batsman has played at a certain strike-rate, whether it was important for him to play at 200 strike-rate, whether the team could still have won (by) striking at 100 and 120,” Rahul told reporters in Mohali on Monday ahead of India’s three-match T20I series opener against Australia on the 20th at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium.

“Strike-rate is something I am working at. I am working towards it, on how I can improve myself as an opening batter and see how I can have the most impact for my team when I go out to bat,” added the Lucknow Supergiant’s captain. Rahul strikes at 140.91 in the T20Is, which is just above his overall T20 strike-rate of 137.35.

KL also thanked coach and captain, Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma, who have been given the players immense support and an environment, which is not afraid to fail.

“We criticise ourselves more than anyone else because we are representing our country. So, when we don’t do well, it hurts the most. I have a leader, coach, and support staff, who encourage players who are going through a rough patch. Indian Cricket team regular vice-captain KL Rahul has been out of play after the conclusion of IPL 2022, the wicket keeper batsman had surgery in Germany first and then contracted Covid – 19. He took out rehab training at the NCA in Bengaluru.

Now, Danish Kaneria, former Pakistan spinner, has said that he feels that KL should not be rushed to feature in the playing XI for the Asia Cup edition later this month. With him being the deputy of Rohit Sharma, it means he is likely to play every game.

Rahul has not played international cricket post IPL 2022 and Kaneria feels that the management should give him some time to get comfortable in the team.

“Rahul hasn’t played international cricket for a while, yet he has been picked ahead of Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, and Sanju Samson, who were playing continuously. Whenever a player is back from injury, you shouldn’t rush him into the XI. He should have been given a bit of time to ease into the team as he is an important player for India in the T20 World Cup,”  said the Pakistani on his YouTube channel.

Danish Kaneria has also mentioned that, Mohammed Shami should have been included in the squad in place of Avesh Khan, as he feels that Shami would have been more economical on the UAE soil.

The squad for the Asia Cup has been announced, some new comers will be shining in their first Asia Cup tournament. Although, players like Mohammed Shami and Ishan Kishan are not in the squad, raising a lot of questions.

But, now what has come as sheer shock, ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah is set to miss the tournament due to a back injury, IPL star Harshal Patel was also ruled out due to rib injury.

“Jasprit Bumrah has a back injury and will not play in the Asia Cup. He is our main bowler and we would like him to be back in action before T20 World Cup. We can’t risk him in Asia Cup and the injury could aggravate,” a senior BCCI official said to PTI.

Jasprit Bumrah was set to lead the bowling attack with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, but after the disappointment, India may have to pay the price. Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan and Deepak Chahar will be the ones who should be making to the team, in absence of Bumrah.

Now, with the back injury, the bowler will be out for some time and will likely return for the white ball home series against Australia and South Africa in September-October. Some rehabilitation time will also be needed at the NCA in Bengaluru.

Moreover, in absence of Bumrah, a senior and experience player like Mohammed Shami would have been a more secure option. KL Rahul is also back as deputy of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will also be seen in action after month long break.

KL Rahul has missed a total of 7 series till now in the year 2022, which is not a good sign for the Indian squad.

“Hardik is a world-class player and it’s great to have him back in the team at full fitness. Whether he will be named vice-captain is up to the selectors. But he is already a leader in the group. As an all-rounder, he understands both situations. He has outstanding leadership skills and we saw that in the IPL. He will surely do well,” said a senior BCCI official.

After his recovery, Pandya gave a good reply to his critics by lifting the IPL 2022 trophy with Gujarat Titans. Moreover, he has contributed heavily with both bat and ball for the Men in Blue lately.

Indian cricketer Mohsin Khan has been in all praises for KL Rahul, the captaincy of Rahul in the TATA IPL 2022 has been a huge turnout for the Uttar Pradesh bowler and even the Lucknow Super Giants.

“I enjoy playing under KL Rahul’s Captaincy. He doesn’t give any pressure the bowler. He says do whatever you want to do, and backs up your plans. He captains very well and does not let the pressure come on the bowlers.”

In February 2022, Mohsin was bought by the Lucknow Super Giants in the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League.

KL Rahul also has been in complete awe of the pacer saying, “Mohsin has been fantastic for us in the last few matches. He has the skills but the important thing is when to use those skills. He will soon be wearing the blue jersey.”

Rohit Sharma on Wednesday hailed Prasidh Krishna’s performance in the second ODI of the three-match series against West Indies. Rohit also said Shikhar Dhawan should return for the third and final ODI. Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Navdeep Saini tested positive for COVID-19 before the series began. India gained an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series after victory in the second ODI by 44 runs. In the second ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, Prasidh Krishna’s four-wicket haul helped India defend 237 and beat West Indies by 44 runs.

Rohit said at the post-match presentation: “Obviously winning the series is a good feeling. The partnership between Rahul and Surya had a lot of maturity. We got to a respectable total at the end. We knew we could fight it out. The entire unit bowled superbly. It is important for these guys to bat under pressure and that will determine their character.”

There is no harm trying out some new things. Because it is important to look at the long-term goals. We will see what works best for the team combination. I was a little surprised to see no dew. I have not seen a spell like that in India for a long time. Prasidh bowled with a lot of pace and the others complimented him,” he said.

Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul may have scored 64 and 49 respectively, but India kept on losing wickets at regular intervals, and West Indies restricted India to 237/9 in 50 overs. Alzarri Joseph and Odean Smith each took two wickets for the West Indies.

“KL also batted superbly as he is continuously up and down the order. I was asked to try a different approach in this game. Shikhar should be back for the next game,” Rohit said.

“When you have five bowlers and Deepak is the sixth, you always have to rotate your bowlers,” he said.

The final one-day international will take place on Friday at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Ravi Bishnoi thanks KL Rahul for joining Lucknow- Spin sensation Ravi Bishnoi praised KL Rahul for his pick ahead of the mega auction. With 24 wickets in the first two editions, the youngster was at his best. In anticipation of the upcoming IPL 2022 auction, Lucknow paid him Rs 4 crore for his retention.
“I am very proud to be selected among the world’s best players before the mega auction. I suspect that Rahul must have suggested my name to the Lucknow franchise management. My focus now is to help the team win games in the IPL,” said Ravi Bishnoi, according to The Times of India.

“I was given the opportunity to play in my very first season as a member of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in 2020. The captain and the director of cricket operations for PBKS, Anil Kumble sir, have provided me with tremendous support during my two years with them. As a youngster, it was a big exposure for me and it gave me more confidence as a bowler,” he said.
