Now, the brand is rolling out a new iOS 18.0.1 update, which is expected to fix all the bugs that users are currently facing, along with two security updates.

Here’s more about the latest iOS 18.0.1 update.

Apple’s iOS 18.0.1 Update Now Rolling Out

In a nutshell, this update comprises of bug fixes for the touch screen, camera, messages, and performance related issues. Firstly, on the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models, in certain cases, users would have had to face unresponsiveness in the touch screen. This made it difficult for them to scroll, select on-screen items, and do many other necessary tasks. This touch screen issue will be resolved with this latest update.

Another bug that many iPhone 16 Pro models users have been complaining about is the screen freeze issue while recording macro videos on the ultra wide camera in 4K with HDR turned off. With the iOS 18.0.1 update, this is also said to be fixed.

Now coming to the issues in the Messages app, when users reply to a message carrying a shared Apple Watch face, the app may unexpectedly close on its own. On the performance side, Apple states that due to a memory allocation issue, there were performance related issues in some iPhone models. Both these issues will also be resolved after updating with the iOS 18.0.1 update.

Regarding the security updates, users would have seen the record feature in the Messages app recording a few seconds of audio before the recording indicator appears. This problem has been fixed. The other security issue is a very serious one. VoiceOver had the capability of reading saved passwords. This has been disabled by Apple in the new update.

When you enable the speed limits feature it will change colors on the speed indicator to nudge you to drive within the speed limit set in your region. The addition of the speedometer in your navigation shows you how fast you’re driving on the road. However, as per Google, speedometers shown in the Google Maps are for informational use only and users are advised to use their vehicle’s speedometer to confirm their actual driving speed.

You can turn on the speedometer and speed limits by tapping your profile picture on Google Maps> Go to Settings> Navigation> Driving options. It might take a few weeks for the rollout to be completed, hence the users are advised to be patient regarding the visibility of these features.

Passkeys are said to be more secure and reliable than passwords.

Read more about it below.

Passkeys – More Secure and Reliable

Apple devices are known for being secure and safe when compared to other devices and adding one more layer of security, iPhone users can now start creating passkeys and use them to sign in to apps and websites that support them.

In comparison to passwords, passkeys are more secure and reliable. It is generated uniquely on every account and has very little chance of being made vulnerable to phishing. It will also work on other Apple devices that have been signed in with the same Apple ID.

Similar to passwords, passkeys are also encrypted and are stored in users’ iCloud Keychain. No one will be able to know your passkey as they won’t be visible to anyone, and this includes Apple.

Users who are interested in trying out Apple’s passkey would need devices that run on iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS 13, and tvOS 16, or their later versions. It must also be ensured that iCloud Keychain and two-factor authentication are enabled.

Here’s how to set up passkey

Apple iPhone users in order to set up a passkey will have to first visit an application or website that supports passkeys and then go to the sign-in page.

If you already have an account, log in and then direct yourself to the account settings or management screen. If you want to create a new account, tap on the link given for setting up a new account and then follow the necessary steps.

Once you get to see the option to save passkeys, simply press continues and there, you have created the passkey which will be saved on the “Passwords” menu in “Settings”.

If by chance users want to change their passkey due to any reason, they just have to create a new passkey to replace the previous one.

Some of the notifications read “need a good excuse to not cook”, and “Caffeine is great, but you still need food, Barkha”.

After these notifications of food delivery apps, one that has most intrigued me recently is its “Live Activities” support allowing iPhone users to track their order on the lock screen and Dynamic Island. I came across this interesting and less talked about feature on the Swiggy food delivery app which is quite interesting as speculations were around Uber Eats to bring it in India.

It would certainly make it easy for the users to order and keep track of their orders and that’s too without opening the screen lock. You won’t have to sit and refresh the live location page showing the live location of the food delivery man.

Basically, an order placed by the user is followed by the six-stage of notifications which includes

Order received/accepted

The restaurant is preparing food

The delivery partner has reached the restaurant

The order is out for delivery

The delivery partner has reached the location

Order delivered

I didn’t have to keep an eye on the live track to see where the delivery man had reached. As soon as the screen locked, a widget on display appeared on the lock screen showing all the aforementioned notifications in steps with graphics. It didn’t require a refresh page in order to update the status but it happened automatically which was quite magical making me less anxious about the status.

Apple introduced the Live Activities feature with the iOS 16 update but earlier didn’t support third-party apps. As soon as the iOS 16.1 update came it brought support for third-party apps and Swiggy eager to adapt hopped on. In a blog post shared by the designer at Swiggy he wrote that the earlier designer team planned to present a progress bar or map in Dynamic Island for live notification but to not anchor users for long they chose the illustrations of status.

While apps like Uber Eats have just started rolling out Live Activities support around the world, Swiggy has made a big leap by rolling it out for a big section of users.

Zomato’s “Live Notification” is no different from Swiggy’s which uses 3D elements, a progress bar and shows the time it will take to deliver the order.

Read more about it below.

Apple’s iOS 17

The Bloomberg tech reporter, Mark Gurman previously mentioned that Apple might just be planning on improving the performance and fixing the bugs of the company’s iOS user interface with its latest version and is not planning on adding any new features to it. Apple’s intense focus on developing its mixed-reality headset was the main reason for it.

However, based on what Gurman had reported recently, Apple has changed its strategy with its latest iOS 17 user interface, and the company is planning on bringing more features as requested by its users along with just improving its performance and fixing the bugs.

If we look at the iOS 16 update from Apple, the update was an ambitious update for the company but due to several reasons had many missed deadlines and had a lot of bugs in its initial versions. Unlike the iOS 16 update, the iOS 17 won’t bring a great change to the device but the company with its latest iOS 17 will try on bringing some of the features its users always wanted to have on their devices.

The software is being codenamed “Dawn” and since Gurman has had a long history of reporting Apple’s product plans with the most accuracy, this change of strategy can be confirmed. Apple users can thus start their wait for many of their most wanted features to appear on their devices.

Gurman: iOS 17 to Provide Several ‘Most Requested Features’ https://t.co/5f74MupZsX by @hartleycharlton pic.twitter.com/tbJ79snLJy

We can also expect the iOS 17 to have its preview at the Worldwide Developer Conference of Apple which is likely to take place in the month of June 2023.
