Due to high costs and limited supply at Cruise partner Nvidia, the GM subsidiary has been convinced that relying on third parties for necessary components like chips is neither practical nor reasonable.

Cruise disagreed with Nvidia’s pricing despite the lack of available chips. Carl Jenkins, the company’s head of hardware, told Reuters that Cruise wasn’t buying enough chips to be eligible for a discount because it is a small division of GM.

For the upcoming Origin model, a boxy self-driving electric vehicle (EV) without pedals or a steering wheel that is estimated to be available by 2023, Cruise started making its own chips rather than placing more orders for Nvidia chips.

Two years ago, Cruise began developing chips using then-commonly available ARM CPUs. Similar chips are utilized in portable gadgets like smartphones and tablets because they are energy-efficient. Cruise claims that Origin’s current ARM designs will increase range while reducing power consumption.

The Cruise has developed four internal chips: the Dune sensor data processor, the unnamed radar chip, the Horta computing chip, and the last, unnamed gadget that will be revealed later. The cruise will nevertheless need to work with an unnamed Asian semiconductor producer to develop its specialized CPUs. As a result, there will be some outside businesses present.

The specialized ARM chips will be available by 2025, but Cruise is already thinking about switching to the open-source (cheaper) RISC-V architecture, which would be more suited for its self-driving cars.

One of GM’s goals, according to Cruise, is to cut the cost of AVs and make them more affordable for more people by the middle of the decade. To do this, GM plans to develop a less expensive in-house chip and take control of its supply chain.

Carmakers don’t want to fall behind if there is another chip shortage, even though the current one is gradually getting better. Especially not automakers working on self-driving cars, which rely even more on microprocessors than regular cars do.

The Celestiq’s rear end has four sets of angular brake lights, two of which are on each side and extend to the wheel wells. It will undoubtedly be Celestiq’s most distinctive—and divisive—design feature.

The Celestiq is oddly referred to by GM as a “show vehicle,” suggesting that it is only a bespoke creation meant for public exhibition and not for sale. It is intriguing that GM feels the need to draw that distinction, even if it does not necessarily imply that there will be significant alterations once the production version is unveiled.

There isn’t much new information given, other than the fact that it is receiving its first moment in the limelight. The majority of the important specifications, such as range, battery capacity, charge time, and acceleration measures, are being withheld by GM since it’s only a show car.

Instead, the carmaker is emphasizing the high-tech features that are designed to set this Cadillac apart from the others, as well as the Celestiq’s customized character (each car will be individually manufactured, and Cadillac is only intending to produce about 500 vehicles a year). We should learn more specifics once the production version is unveiled later this year.

This includes the 55-inch pillar-to-pillar digital display with “electronic digital blinds,” which according to GM is an active privacy feature that allows passengers to watch films while obstructing them from the driver’s vision. The Celestiq is presented as an EV suitable for royalty (or maybe just the really affluent) thanks to the interior’s crimson leather upholstery.

Modern EVs frequently have panoramic glass roofs, and GM’s “Suspended Particle Device” technology allows for modular adjustment of this feature. This carries on the concept of customization, personalization, and privacy by allowing each vehicle occupant to choose their own level of transparency.

GM’s new Ultra Cruise sophisticated driver-assist system, which the carmaker claims will cover “95 percent” of driving situations on 2 million miles of roadways in the US, will be installed for the first time in the electric sedan, which is anticipated to make its debut in 2023. Additionally, the system is the first to make use of Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon Ride Platform, which will have the computing capability of “a few hundred” personal computers.

Additionally, GM’s plans for the Celestiq’s manufacture are becoming clearer to us. The manufacturer is to spend $81 million to support its assembly at GM’s Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan, which was built on land that renowned Finnish architect Eero Saarinen initially planned for a university. Since the center’s opening in May 1956, the Celestiq will be the first production car made there.

GM initially unveiled the Celestiq to a select group of journalists at its EV Day event in early 2020, but it is just now making the lavish EV’s complete photos public. The Cadillac Lyriq, which only started manufacturing earlier this year, is supposed to be paired with the Celestiq.

Now as the competition is rising high, everyone is trying to gain space in the EV market. Recently General Motors’ head made a statement with president Biden that they will be investing a total of $2 Billion in the statement of Michigan. Elon Musk has already done quite a good investment before even when other car manufacturers wanted to enter this space. Elon Musk has invested heavily in the EV market through his branch of Tesla.

Tesla cars are liked by almost everyone because of their uniqueness and the way they look and perform on the road also. While GM and other car manufacturers are trying their best to capture as much market as they can. But it would be nice to watch as the competition grows will it help the customers or not.

The Tesla CEO mocked her for her nonsense assumption.

Tesla has about 63 percent of the electric-vehicle market which makes it the pioneer in the EVs. But Mary Barra believes that GM can catch up to Tesla till 2025 and considers the firm to be the US leader and No.2 in China. She claims that the General Motors have brands that the customers trust and also has the highest loyalty rating. She said, “We’ll be rolling them out, and we’re going to just keep working until we have No. 1 market share.”

On thus, a travel advisor who is often seen writing reviews about people and places, Kim Paquette tweeted, “Despite #Tesla taking 63% of the EV market, Mary Barra has managed to convince herself that GM is the US leader in EVs. 🤣🤦‍♀️ @elonmusk.”

The richest man of the world, who is also known for his humor and engaging with his audience, Elon Musk is again in the spotlight for his comments. Now, he is seen mocking Mary Barra by tweeting, “Must be nice living in Cloud Cuckoo Land.”

In the tweet, Musk criticized her for her over optimistic nature as she believes that GM is the US leader in EV market. The Cloub Cuckoo Land came from The Birds by the Greek Dramatist Aristophanes in which the birds decide to build a perfect city called the Cloub Cockoo City. It symbolizes state of unrealistic and impossible fancy.

The billionaire is pointing towards Mary’s believe that things will happen the way she wants. He is indirectly saying the Mary is in the illusion that she is the leader and she will overtake Tesla to take the first position in the market.
