FBI acknowledged on Wednesday that though it had tested Pegasus, but didn’t use it for any investigation. ” The Federal Bureau of Investigation has tested Pegasus spyware”, was mentioned in an investigative report by an American media firm, released recently. The investigative report was named “The Battle for the World’s Most Powerful Cyberweapon”.This report revealed many pieces of information about the NSO group’s Pegasus. The report also mentioned the India-Israel defense deal. This deal came to the limelight last week after this report was released.

According to Investigative Report –

The FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) had also tested this cyberweapon ‘Pegasus’ for years with plans to use it for domestic surveillance until the agency finally decided last year not to deploy the tools. FBI had been using a version of “NSO’s premier spying tool.”

“The FBI obtained a limited license for spyware testing and evaluation only, there was no operational use in support of any investigation,” an FBI spokesperson said in a statement, adding that its license was no longer active, the reports say.

The US Commerce Department added NSO firm to a blacklist in 2021. It restricted US companies from doing business with NSO, over human rights concerns. The company “NSO” is currently being sued by Apple for violating its user terms and services agreement.

According to NSO, it provides tools and techniques that can combat terrorism and crime.
