Perplexity is set to bring its AI-powered browser, Comet, to iPhone users. The update was shared by Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas on X, where he confirmed that Comet for iOS is “almost here” and that users can now pre-order the app.

In his post, Srinivas said that Comet on iOS “will be smooth as butter and feel like Safari grade browser with Perplexity powering every webpage and the browser for assistance.” He also shared the App Store link, which is already live.

The App Store listing shows the app as “Comet – AI Personal Assistant” under the Utilities category. It is marked as “Coming Soon” with an expected release date of March 11, 2026. The app will be free to download and will include in-app purchases. It is currently listed as compatible only with iPhone and carries an age rating of 18+.

Users who pre-order the app will have it automatically downloaded to their iPhone once it becomes available on March 11, 2026.

According to the description on the App Store page, Comet is described as an AI-powered browser that acts as a personal assistant and thinking partner. The listing highlights the following features:

While the iPhone version is yet to go live, Comet is already available for Mac users. The browser is also accessible on Android and Windows platforms. However, there has been no announcement regarding availability for iPad users at this time.

Back in July, when Perplexity launched its very own Comet Browser, it was only available to Max subscribers. Later on, Pro subscribers were also added. But now, Perplexity has officially announced that the Comet Browser will be available to all tiers of subscription users, including the free plan.

Currently, it is only available to desktop users, while pre-registration is already open for Android users. Its iOS version is still in development, and so far, there is no official news about its iOS availability.

Perplexity has also announced that users with the premium Max plan will get access to a new ‘Background Assistant’ feature. This tool is designed to quietly monitor browsing activity while proactively surfacing helpful insights, summaries, and suggestions without disrupting the workflow.

In addition to this, Max subscribers will continue to enjoy other exclusive features, such as the Email Assistant.

Perplexity, the AI startup backed by Nvidia, has officially launched its first AI powered web browser called Comet.  At launch, Comet is available to users subscribed to Perplexity’s Max plan, which is priced at 200 US dollars per month. A small group of invitees who joined the waitlist will also get early access. A broader rollout may follow in the coming months.

Comet’s main feature is the Perplexity AI search engine. It comes preinstalled and is set as the default search experience, placing the company’s core product right at the centre. The browser focuses on providing AI generated summaries of search results, allowing users to get direct answers without needing to jump between websites.

In addition, users can access the Comet Assistant, a new AI agent that lives inside the browser. According to Perplexity, this assistant can summarise emails and calendar events, manage tabs, and navigate web pages on behalf of users. The assistant can be accessed through a side panel on any web page, giving it visibility into the content and enabling it to answer relevant questions about what the user is viewing.

Perplexity has launched several tools in recent months, but Comet appears to be its most ambitious release so far.

With Comet, Perplexity hopes to reach users directly, avoiding reliance on Google Chrome, which remains the most widely used browser today. While AI powered browsers are still new to many, Google has also embraced this direction. The company has recently introduced a series of AI features within Chrome, including a dedicated AI mode, which bears similarities to what Comet offers.
