In the post, Nothing said that “OS 2.0 will bring in more elements of our Nothing visual identity and focus on intentional smartphone consumption.”

Back in March 2023, Carl Pei announced Nothing’s partnership with Blloc and roped in Hoyss and his design team to craft the next generation of Nothing OS.

Nothing’s Software Creative Director, Mladen M. Hoyss, revealed in an interview that the brand wants to start from scratch when it gets to Nothing OS 2.0.

2023 is the year of software for Nothing. OS 2.0 will bring in more elements of our Nothing visual identity and focus on intentional smartphone consumption.

Coming soon. pic.twitter.com/zXm81eCMmJ

— Nothing (@nothing) June 9, 2023

Hoyss had earlier worked on Blloc’s Zero 18 Android phone and the Ratio Launcher development. Hoyss believes that with Nothing OS 2.0, there will be a harmonious sync between the hardware and software design fundamentals that form the core identity of the brand.

The Nothing OS 2.0 will incorporate the dot matrix typography within a minimalistic interface to deliver productivity and granular personalization for the Phone (2). The software will majorly focus on the home screen design. It will prioritize information that is personal to the users.

The company is based in London and has a number of notable investors, such as iPod inventor Tony Fadell, Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman, and Youtuber Casey Neistat.

Ear (1) was the very first product by the company and it was well received by people. The unique transparent design really set the product apart from its competitors.

The next step after this was the first smartphone and Nothing Phone (1) was launched in July 2022. Just like people anticipated, the smartphone came with a transparent design. The glyph interface on the back had mixed opinions from people.

Nothing Phone (1) has received a tremendous response in the Indian market. This year Ear (2) was launched by the company. Nothing Phone (2) launch is already on the horizon.

The meme showed how while other brands focus on the mass production of products without taking care of their features, Nothing focuses on fixing the problems on the current devices instead of just mass-producing goods.

Look at this tweet where Carl Pie posted the meme:-

pic.twitter.com/GLSBtiYptC

— Carl Pei (@getpeid) December 11, 2022

This is actually a great way to promote the superiority of one’s brand especially when your target audience is the genZ. The netizens are not only entertained by the tweet by also are speculating the meaning of it and giving their opinions on it.

One user or the others stepped forward to criticize the brand openly, some of such tweets include:-

Only a single phone has been launched by you which is also not a spectacular phone. Have u heard Mi 3 or Poco F1 … Those phone doesn't just have hype but those phone were solid too…wrt price.. your phone is just like any other chinese oem

— Abhishek (@Vikas49499827) December 11, 2022

U need to do something about this phone. Its a phone full of bugs. Glyph tearing apart. And you say the BOM cost of the phone is 360$ but the phone sells at 278$ in india. how can u sell a phone lower than the cost??

— Vikas Mehta (@vikasmehta_in) December 11, 2022

While there are users who are totally in favor of the brand and its products asking for updates on the device and the next products.

The beauty of having a free speech on social media platforms allows different kinds of opinions to float up front. People are free to criticize the device as well as speak in favor of it. This way the brand owners know what problems to work on as well and the critics keep them humble.
