“He’s a nice kid but when he goes onto the football pitch he changes and he trains and performs like a man. I’m delighted with him. He has come into an adult environment, he’s still a minor. He’s been professional and his training level has been top. He’s got a huge future. We’re going to develop him and shape him and polish him up.”

He’s been a joy to be around for the couple of weeks and he’ll have many more opportunities to be around this group. It’ll be a matter of time before he makes his debut for Aston Villa. This is the start for him and I hope that this trip gives him a taste of what it’s like, the level, and I hope it makes him hungry to push on.” said the former England captain.

Norwich City have been dropped from the Premier League after a 2-0 loss against Aston Villa, with Danny Ings scoring and assisting. With Burnley’s 2-1 win against Watford, Dean Smith’s side fell against his former club, relegating the Canaries to the Championship. With nearly his first touch, Ings found Watkins with a searching pass from the left, and his fellow forward profited on a slip by Brandon Williams to put Villa ahead after 41 minutes. With a quick turn and shot in the dying minutes of the contest, Ings doubled Villa’s lead.

Two minutes after Watkins’ goal, Norwich missed a good opportunity to equalize when Williams headed over after Grant Hanley glanced a Norwich freekick back across the area. Bailey, who went off hurt soon before halftime, nearly put Villa ahead with 20 minutes left on the clock, but Tim Krul’s outstretched hand touched his snapshot from just beyond the area onto the crossbar.

After the restart, Villa’s offensive trio of Ings, Watkins, and Philippe Coutinho tore at Norwich, with Ings coming close to increasing the lead only to have his attempted chip deflected behind for a corner, which he subsequently headed against the bar.

Norwich ran out of steam as the game progressed, and by the end, they could scarcely move out of their half as Villa poured on the pressure, with Ings putting the icing on the cake deep into stoppage time. Villa climbed up to 13th place with 40 points after their first win in six games, while Norwich remain in last place with 21 points. Norwich knew it would be a long shot to stay in England’s top division going into today’s match, but the result confirmed their fate, and they will play in the Championship next season.

Cameron Archer is set to be on Smith’s radar and is also a big fan of the English man, the 20 year old is currently on a loan with the club has been on a brilliant streak with seven goals to his credit.

However, Aston Villa manager and former Liverpool player Steven Gerrard has made it clear that he wants Archer in the pre season training before he decides his destiny. Saturday will be a treat for Smith as his side face Gerrard’s team at Aston’s home ground Villa Park.

Anita Asante, a defender for Aston Villa and England, has announced her retirement at the end of the season. The footballer has 71 caps for England, including two World Cups, and was a member of Team GB in the 2012 Olympics in London. This season, she has been a fixture for Villa, appearing 21 times to help them finish tenth in the Women’s Super League.

Asante is now with Villa in the Women’s Super League, but she has previously played for Chelsea, Rosengard, and Arsenal. She wrote on Twitter: “On the eve of my 37th birthday, it’s time to announce my retirement from football at the end of the season. I want to thank my family, teammates, managers, fans, and all the clubs I have played for. To say it’s been a privilege is an understatement. It’s been a dream.”

Asante began her career at Arsenal, where she was a member of the team that won the Premier League, Premier League Cup, FA Cup, and UEFA Cup in 2007 to complete a historic quadruple. The defender then moved to Chelsea before playing for Sky Blue FC, Chicago Red Stars, and Washington Freedom in the United States.

Through her work in the media and with groups such as Show Racism the Red Card, Amnesty International, and Goals for Girls, Asante has committed to continue to support women’s football once she retires. Fans and players have been congratulating her on an outstanding career in which she has won 18 club titles. Before returning to Chelsea and then joining Villa in 2020, Asante spent five years in Sweden, where she won trophies with both Goteborg and Rosengard.

Asante competed in two World Cups and three European Championships at the international level. Asante’s WSL season and career are both down to two matches. On the 1st and 8th of May, the club will face Arsenal and Birmingham City, respectively.
