Cybersecurity industry suffers due to Amazon’s Alexa ranking service closure

Alexa.com has been decommissioned by Amazon. While it may not be obvious at first, the decision to discontinue the popular web traffic analysis and website ranking service has an impact on the cybersecurity industry.

When visiting alexa.com, users are now greeted with an end-of-service notice stating that the site will be retired on May 1, 2022.

Alexa was founded in 1996 and bought out by Amazon in 1999. Amazon has announced that the service will be phased out in December 2021.

On December 15, 2022, the Alexa Top Sites and Web Information Service APIs will be decommissioned. Amazon did not provide any details about why Alexa was shut down, only stating that it was a “difficult decision.”

Many in the cybersecurity industry have used the Alexa Top 1 million list to analyse the security practises and posture of the world’s most popular websites.

DomainTools announced in late April that it would generate its own list, and that the best approach would be to combine four types of data.

The data will be combined into a single list using Tranco, an average methodology. Security vendors are frantically searching for a new external source of traffic data for their clients.

Nothing, a consumer technology firm based in London, has announced that Google Assistant, Alexa, and Siri are all available on the EarPod (1).

“Alexa, play Nothing Else Matters,” says the voice. Yes, it’s time to bid Google and Siri farewell. “Voice Assistants for your ear (1) is now available,” the business claimed in a tweet.

A new option to enable voice assistant will be introduced to the triple-tap touch control available to users with the next version. By tapping the earbuds three times, they can now activate the voice assistant.

With firmware version 0.6700.1.86, voice assistant support will be available. After updating the firmware, go to Gesture Controls > Triple Taps > Voice Assistant to enable the feature.

With the case, the earbuds provide up to 34 hours of playing, as well as a strong 11.6mm driver and other industry-leading features.

Three high-definition mics are used by the ANC on earbuds to bring music, movies, and podcasts into great focus.

The business claims that a ten-minute charge of the case provides up to eight hours of power for a whole day.

Latest Version of Amazon Alexa App for iOS Introduces New Features

Amazon is bringing out new updates for its Alexa app for iOS devices that improves its overall accessibility. The latest version v2.2.401007.0 brings a new theme for the application i.e. light mode along with the existing dark mode. The mobile app with this update supports Apple’s Dynamic Type feature that allows users to choose the size of textual content displayed on the screen.

However, Devices that don’t support dark mode will only get the light mode to use. The dark mode is now available on iPhone, iPad, or iPod.

How to enable Dark Mode:

Settings > Display and Brightness > Select Dark > Turn on Dark Mode.
Users can swipe up from the bottom of the screen > access the control panel > long-press the brightness bar > select dark.

Secondly, Apple’s Dynamic Type feature will allow Alexa app users to adjust the size of the texts according to their respective needs; they can either select larger text size in order to read more clearly or select the smaller size font option to get more information at a single glance.

Both these updates will soon be rolling out in India very soon!

Amazon’s Alexa turns Three in India! Amazon to hold 24 hour special sale on Echo devices

Amazon’s digital voice assistant Alexa has turned three in India. To celebrate the third anniversary, Amazon To celebrate the occasion, e-commerce platform Amazon has announced wide range offers on Echo products including smart speakers and smart displays.

The sale begins midnight on February 15. The company has also released insights on the usage of Alexa in India in 2020.

Amazon has stated that Indian users have interacted millions of times each week in English, Hindi and Hinglish which is over 67% more in 2020 as compared to 2019. The popular “Alexa, I love you” voice requests increased to 19,000 times a day, up by 1200% from 2019.

The company also said that Alexa users are from across the country from metros like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore to smaller cities like Spiti, Bundi, and Gadchiroli. Customers from over 85% pin codes purchased Echo smart speakers in 2020.

According to Amazon, the top 5 most requested songs were Shree Hanuman Chalisa, Shaitan Ka Saala, and Baby Shark. In 2020, when Alexa added the support for Amazon Shopping app; The assistant responded to more than 5.8 lakh requests each day to search for products, deals, and music.

The company in its press release stated that “There was a significant increase in Alexa interactions in last year, especially for guided meditation, workout music, games and learning skills, and content such as mythology, devotional music, stories and Shayari,”
