OriginOS 6 finally launched in the global and Indian markets, rollout to start from November

So, the day has finally arrived. After several rumours and speculations, Vivo has officially launched OriginOS 6 in the global/Indian markets. Earlier, vivo had two custom UI builds, OriginOS for China and FuntouchOS for global markets. Now, both the Chinese and global versions will share the same name as OriginOS.

OriginOS 6 (based on Android 16) features for the Global Markets

OriginOS 6 is built around the Origin Smooth Engine, which coordinates computing, storage, and display modules to deliver a stable and responsive experience.

The 8+1 Ultra-Core Computing system ensures that critical tasks run first, resulting in an 18.5% improvement in app cold-start speed and a 10.5% boost in frame-rate stability. Memory Fusion technology speeds up data loading by 106%, while Dual Rendering improves animation performance by 35% and maintains frame rates 11% steadier under heavy use. The Origin Animation system introduces new effects such as Spring Animation, Blur Transition, Morphing Animation, and One Shot Animation for smoother visuals.

Touch response has also been refined. The new Snap-Up Engine allocates processing power for demanding actions such as ticket booking, while app launches are up to 16% faster across 50 consecutive apps. Touch latency has been reduced by 41%, making interactions more fluid. Vivo has also received SGS certification for sustained smoothness on the vivo X300 Pro running OriginOS 6, simulating five years of heavy usage.

In terms of design, OriginOS 6 takes inspiration from natural elements and aims to simplify interaction. The Origin Design system unifies colour, icon, font, layout, and depth across the interface. The new Vivo Sans2 font supports over 40 languages and introduces variable symbol weights. Visual features such as Dynamic Glow and Translucent Colour create a more cohesive and layered appearance.

Several built-in apps have been redesigned for clarity, including iManager and Origin Health, while the Immersive Weather feature offers an animated representation of weather conditions. The Lock Screen Grid now allows users to freely arrange and resize widgets, adjust fonts, and combine photos. The updated Home Screen Grid adopts a 4×7 layout with adaptive folders, and Flip Cards add motion-based visual changes to photos on the screen.

OriginOS 6 also introduces vivo AI, developed in collaboration with Google. It integrates Gemini and Circle to search for a more connected experience. The new Origin Island feature provides real-time information and contextual suggestions at the top of the screen, with integration for Android 16’s Live Updates. Users can act instantly on copied information using Copy & Go or move files between apps using Drag & Go without switching screens.

AI features have been added across several tools. AI Retouch combines AI Erase, AI Image Expander, and AI Photo Enhance for photo editing, while Smart Call Assistant, DocMaster, AI Creation, and AI Search help with productivity and communication. Office Kit and One-Tap Transfer enable file sharing and collaboration across devices.

For security and efficiency, vivo has strengthened system protection through the vivo Security brand, focusing on transparency, on-device intelligence, and data minimisation. The updated BlueVolt technology improves power efficiency and charging stability, helping the system remain consistent and cool during operation.

Availability

OriginOS 6 has already made its debut in the Chinese market, where vivo has also shared a detailed rollout schedule. As per today’s press release, the global and Indian rollout will begin in November. However, unlike the Chinese launch, Vivo hasn’t shared the list of devices that will be getting the OriginOS 6 update and by when.

That said, GSMArena has shared what appears to be the global rollout schedule, but it isn’t specific to any region. So, for now, we’ll have to wait a little longer for the exact rollout details to be confirmed.
