Big Shocker for Google! Philips switches from Google TV to Titan OS in 2026 for their flagship LCD and OLED TVs

Previously, Philips used Titan OS only for entry-level and mid-range TV models, while its premium LCD and OLED flagships arrived with Google TV. During the 2026 Philips launch event, the company made a big announcement that it will be ditching Google TV on all models of its 2026 lineup and will instead use Titan OS.

This could be a shock for Google as Philips holds substantial market share in European markets, and with this major partner stepping away, Google may see its impact on its market share in the coming years.

For TP Vision (the manufacturer behind Philips TVs), this move allows more effective management of updates, service compatibility, and overall TV performance without restrictions that often accompany major ecosystems like Google TV.

Titan OS is developed by Titan OS S.L based in Barcelona. The platform runs on a Linux foundation with a Chromium base. Many applications run as web-based services from the cloud, while major global streaming platforms like Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube are reported to be downloaded and processed locally on the TV. It is said that currently, Titan OS boasts over 500 apps and serves more than 15 million monthly users.

It is said that Philips has ensured that Titan OS supports all major international streaming services, with Apple TV expected to join the platform later in 2026. With this major shift, users may experience fewer app choices compared to Google TV and the absence of Chromecast, but they will get access to a more Europe-focused system.

Though Titan OS still faces challenges compared to Google TV’s platform when it comes to app selection and voice control capabilities. But it is said that the platform will receive significant improvements in Q3 2026.

Just like Samsung and LG, Philips seems to also focus on maintaining proprietary operating systems, which hints towards a broader industry shift toward platform independence.
