JEDEC Confirms UFS 5.0, Claiming Higher Performance and Low Power Consumption: Launch Expected in 2026

The successor to the previous UFS 4.x standard – ‘UFS 5.0’ has now been confirmed by JEDEC. Its launch is expected to take place next year, and will be brought out for mobile applications and computing systems aiming at high performance and low power consumption.

Here’s more about it.

JEDEC’s New UFS 5.0 Standard Coming in 2026?

The JEDEC Solid State Technology Association has confirmed that the next UFS 5.0 standard is almost near completion, and it is being made for mobile applications and computing systems that require high performance and low power consumption. Notably, in comparison to its predecessor, it is said to offer better performance and faster data access, and it will additionally be compatible with the previous UFS 4.x hardware as well.

Speaking more about its features, up to 10.8 GB/s increased sequential performance (for meeting AI demands), integrated link equalization (for reliable signal integrity), distinct power supply rail (for easing system integration by providing noise isolation between memory subsystem and PHY), and inline hashing (for greater security) are revealed. Also to note, these upgraded features are a result of JEDEC’s collaboration with MIPI Alliance. The brand has also revealed that it will be continuing to explore added features for bringing more enhancements before the standard gets officially launched. Regarding its launch, it is said to take place next year in 2026 and it is believed to be the next big leap in flash storage.
