Ethanol Blending Rate to be Increased to 27% in India
As per a new report, the ethanol blending rate of petrol is expected to be increased to a new target of 27% and the Government of India has already instructed the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to look into the matter. This new blend of petrol is going to be called as ‘E27’ according to what has been shared, and the BIS authority will be bringing out the norms for the first round of consultation that will be conducted next week in the country. Additionally, the Road Transport and Highways Ministry has also informed the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) to conduct the needed research on engine modification that will help vehicles in using the new ‘E27’ petrol.

In a bigger picture, this decision of the Indian government is intended to reduce the dependence on imported fossil fuels, and also to increase the income that farmers earn. In related news, the same report also points out that an inside source states that a new 10% Isobutanol blend will also be brought for diesel too. This potential bio fuel option is also a big change, however needed engine modifications will have to be made. To add, authorities are also pushing manufacturers to produce 100% ethanol-fueled vehicles and the concerned draft norms have already been issued to them.
