The pioneer in Hindi Journalism, Vinod Dua was a television journalist and program director from India who was the principal presenter and news reader of NDTV India. He was a great political commentator,  election analyst, producer and director.

The Legendary News Anchor was born on 11th March 1954 and spent the early years of his upbringing in the refugee colonies of Delhi. He along with his family was shifted from Dera Ismail Khan after the independence. Since childhood, he was of great fond for debating and theatres. He also used to participate in various singing or debating competitions. During his teenage he became a part of a street theatre group, Theatre Union where he used to write and perform plays on social issues.

He completed his graduation and post-graduation in English literature from the University of Delhi and then in 1974, he made his first appearance on television with a Hindi-language youth program on Doordarsha Yuva Manch. Then in 1975 he started anchoring for a youth show aired in Raipur, Muzaffarpur, Yuv Jan and also in the same year anchored a youth program telecasted on new channel Amritsar TV, Jawan Tarang.

In order to achieve bigger, you have to work harder. So in 1981 he started anchoring a Sunday morning family magazine, Aap Ke Liye and in 1984 he started co-anchoring election analysis on Doordarshan which seemed very attractive and great opportunity to him.

Later in 1985, he started working on a show where common people were given a channel to question the ministers with their problems, Janvani (People’s Voice). The peak in his struggle years was in 1987 when he became the chief producer of India Today Group.

But he was not satisfied with this, his heart craved for more and then he launched his own production company The Communication Group in 1988 to present the required shows on current affairs, budget analysis and documentary films. After that in 1992, he anchored the popular show Chakravyuh telecasted on the channel Zee TV. He then started to produce a weekly current affairs magazine, Parakh, which was telecasted on Doordarshan. In the same year 1996, he became the first electronic media journalist to be honored with Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism award.

At that time, he anchored for the DD3 Media’s program Tasveer-e-Hind and then later in 1998 he started his job for the Sony Entertainment Channel’s show, ‘Chunav Chunauti’.

In the last years of his career he worked as a host for the NDTV India’s program, Zaika India Ka in which he used to travel to different cities of the country to taste a variety of tasty dishes belonging to the rich cultures. He also anchored for the show Jan Gan Man Ki Baat for The Wire Hindi around the same time. He was also honoured with Padma Shri for Journalism in 2008 by Indian Government and them in 2017 Mumbai Press Club awarded him Redick Award for his lifetime achievement in Journalism.

He has also been in some controversies during his lifetime. He was amid a controversy when Gulabi Gang director Nishtha Jain accused Vinod Dua of harassment but he considered her allegations baseless and absurd.

Talking about his personal life, Vinod Dua married to Padmavati Dua nicknamed Chinna Dua who was also a known figure in the same field and worked for channels like Doordarshan and NDTV. They had two pretty daughters, one is a Indian comic actress, Mallika Dua and the other is a clinical psychologist Bakul Dua. His wife and he was infected with covid virus during the peak of the second wave of Covid and she passed away in the hospital in June 2021 after fighting a brave fight against coronavirus.

And, the veteran journalist Vinod Dua had a long and successful career of 42 years full of achievements and awards until 4th December 2021 when he passed away due to Covid infection leaving everything behind. But he will always stay in the hearts of his loved ones and his fans. His words and the way of speaking them made everyone interested and attracted to listen but now the audience will not get to see him anchor again. Its not the time to break down but instead we all should wish for the peace of his soul and well-being of his family.
