Microsoft OneDrive – New Updates for Web and App Versions

As mentioned, Microsoft is currently rolling out a few new feature updates for its OneDrive cloud service. On the web version for personal accounts, OneDrive now supports dark mode (which has been there previously for around five years, but never worked for personal accounts and required work or school accounts*). Additionally, automatic detection of the user’s preferred theme is also part of this feature, and it will open OneDrive accordingly.

A new ‘Photos’ gallery screen has also been brought, with the ‘On This Day’ (Memories) feature and more. Microsoft addresses the feature as its ‘fresh photos experience’. Notably, it will bring a different user interface before the user when opened, and it can be used to open images, edit them, and also save it locally. The memory feature will be allowing users to browse, organize, as well as relive memories.

For the app version on Android and iOS operating systems, a ‘Photos’ tab is also being added onto OneDrive. The feature will enable users to access photos, memories, and many more with functionalities like seamless switching between files and photos, left and right swiping for navigating views, and ‘+’ button for adding photos, files, or folders.

Reportedly, a few new AI-related features are also expected to arrive on OneDrive, and these are said to be offered to all users (both businesses and consumers). Stay tuned for more.
