Taco Bell opens defy concept restaurant, one of the most innovative drive-thru experiences

With one of its most innovative Taco Bell restaurant designs to date, Taco Bell is redefining drive-thru.  The restaurant, termed “Taco Bell Defy,” broke ground last summer and will open its four-lane drive-thru on June 7 in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

The first-of-its-kind two-story model features cutting-edge technology and design, such as a proprietary vertical lift that transports iconic crave-able Taco Bell menu items directly from the kitchen to fans.

The two-story location includes four drive-thru lanes, digital check-in screens for mobile order customers’ unique QR codes, two-way audio and video technology that allows customers to communicate with Taco Bell employees, and a proprietary vertical lift designed by Minneapolis-based Vertical Works Inc. to transport customers’ favourite menu items.

Three of the lanes in the Defy concept will be dedicated to mobile and third-party delivery orders. Meanwhile, the fourth new lane at the fast-food chain will be dedicated to customers seeking the traditional drive-thru experience.
