YouTube releases new updates to protect kids and teens in the digital world

Protecting kids and teens in this digital world, where they have access to a vast pool of information, has always been the topmost concern for parents and other family members. Understanding this concern, YouTube has already introduced various protection features on its platform to safeguard young viewers.
Now the company has shared a few updates that will help parents tailor their family’s YouTube experience, especially for teen viewers.

Additional controls
Parents can now set the amount of time spent scrolling through shorts on YouTube. And soon, parents will see the option to set the timer to zero, which can be used when they want their kids to use YouTube to focus on homework. This is an industry-first feature that puts parents firmly in control of the amount of short-form content their kids watch. Additionally, parents of supervised accounts will be able to set custom Bedtime and Take a Break reminders.
New principles and creator guide for high-quality teen content
New principles and a creator guide are introduced to steer teens toward content that is fun, age-appropriate, higher-quality, and more enriching. These principles outline the types of content that are deemed to be low quality and high quality for teen audiences.
The principles and guide will be used to educate YouTube’s global creator community on their role in supporting teens on YouTube. The principles also inform YouTube’s recommendation system, allowing it to raise high-quality videos like those from Khan Academy, CrashCourse, and TED-Ed, and increase the frequency they are shown to teens.
Updated sign-up experience
In the coming weeks, an updated sign-up experience will be introduced that lets parents create a new kid account and easily switch between accounts in the mobile app, depending on who’s watching, with just a few taps.
This update will ensure that everyone in the family is in the right viewing experience with the content settings and recommendations of age-appropriate content they actually want to watch.
