Spotify DM Feature Launched for Free and Premium Users

Recommending a song, podcast, or audiobook is something that most us do almost every time and for better easiness, Spotify has brought a direct messaging functionality within the platform for sharing contents and messages. Spotify users can access the share button on the ‘now playing’ page at the bottom, and can share the content to people they share a plan with or whom they know via collaborative playlists, jams, blends, and more. It’s up to the receiver to accept or not accept the content recommendation and once it has been accepted, messages and emojis can also be shared between each other. To note, users can access the DM inbox from the profile menu by clicking on their profile picture.

Speaking more, Spotify claims that with this feature, the brand do not intend to replace other social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and more where Spotify recommendations happen in plenty, but the feature is simply to complement the existing means. Also, apart from accepting and rejecting content recommendations, Spotify users will also be allowed to opt out of DMs if they don’t prefer it. Additionally, security measures have also been taken care of and the brand will continuously keep monitoring and look out for harmful and unlawful contents/messages and also users who are being reported.

As mentioned, Spotify’s DM feature will be rolled out in select markets for everyone aged 16 years and more this week, and it will be available to both free and premium users.
