OpenAI Introduces a Dedicated Translator Page, But Google Translate Page Still Has the Edge

OpenAI has introduced a dedicated Translator page that allows users to translate text directly through a standalone webpage.

Translation itself is not new to ChatGPT. Users have already been able to translate text and images through regular chat interactions. The difference with this new page is ease of access. Users can translate text quickly without logging in each time, which makes the process simpler for basic use.

When placed side by side, the ChatGPT Translator page looks quite similar to the Google Translate dedicated page. Both feature a simple layout and are easy to use, and for basic text translation

However, there is a clear difference in what each service offers. OpenAI’s Translator page currently supports only text-based translation and works with more than 40 languages. Google Translate’s dedicated page, in comparison, supports around 249 languages and offers additional tools such as image translation, document uploads, website translation, speech-to-text, and more, all from the same page.

Google Translator Page

Looking purely at the standalone translator pages, Google Translate clearly offers more flexibility due to its wider language support and additional translation tools. The ChatGPT Translator page, at least for now, remains limited to text translation.

That said, the page is still new, and it is possible that OpenAI may expand its features over time. At present, however, when comparing the two dedicated translation pages, Google Translate continues to offer a more complete set of translation options.
