Government bans Ullu, ALTT, Desifix, Big Shots and other apps for showing inappropriate content

Back in March 2024, the Government banned 18 OTT platforms for showing vulgar content, but apps like Ullu Altt were still not taken into consideration, though these platforms also showed erotic or soft porn content in the name of adult entertainment.
Reportedly, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB) has issued a notification directing Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to disable public access within India to 24 websites identified as hosting prohibited material.

These websites were found to be in violation of provisions under the IT Act, 2000 (particularly sections 67 and 67A), Section 294 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 4 of The Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986. These laws prohibit the publication and transmission of sexually explicit content and the indecent representation of women. It is also said that MIB has also intimated to the Director (DS-II), Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, with a request to facilitate compliance by the ISPs.
