Duplicating a Google Calendar event won’t carry over the Meet link anymore
Google has announced an update to Google Calendar and Google Meet that will enhance meeting privacy and security for all users. Beginning September 8, 2025, when a Calendar event is copied or duplicated, the associated Google Meet conference link will no longer be transferred to the new event. Instead, if a user wants to use the same Meet code, they will need to copy and add it manually.
As per Google, this change ensures that meeting access, recordings, and notes remain tied only to the original event and its intended participants. By keeping meeting codes unique, Google is aiming to eliminate the risks of sensitive information being shared with the wrong people. Currently, duplicating events can lead to ambiguity, where the same code is reused across multiple meetings, potentially resulting in misdirected details or confusion.

This update will roll out gradually to both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains, with the rollout period expected to extend beyond 15 days from the start date. It will apply automatically to all Google Workspace customers as well as users with personal Google accounts. There are no admin controls or end-user settings required for this change, as it will take effect by default.
