Country labels on the X platform are now made private again

Just a few days back, a new Country Labels feature was announced for the X platform that displayed account locations of the users in the ‘About Section.’ It was said that the rollout will begin shortly for the users. This feature was briefly made public for all profiles before reverting to private visibility only.
This means for a short period of time, users on X were able to see the location of other users, but later the Country Labels feature was made private again. This left the X users a bit confused. Well, the company is revealed to still be experimenting with this feature.

As explained by the product head of X, Nikita Bier, this brief release of the feature was a strategy to advertise this feature and also to look for any bugs in the feature. After this experiment phase is completed, the Country Labels feature will be officially launched.
Reportedly, the Country Labels feature shows an account’s country of origin based on signals such as IP addresses, app store regions, and posting behavior. It is said that users can choose which country or region to display or opt out entirely. However, choosing not to show a location will label the profile as hidden.
