Open’s New ChatGPT Agent – ‘A New Level of Capability for AI Systems’

As mentioned, OpenAI’s newly-introduced ChatGPT Agent is a unified agentic system that combines the operator’s remote browser with ChatGPT’s deep research and conversational capabilities, and it will be able to take actions on behalf of the users. Sam Altman – CEO of OpenAI noted that the ‘ChatGPT Agent is a new level of capability for AI systems’, and it will be capable of accomplishing complex tasks for its users. A full suite of tools consisting of a visual browser, text browser, terminal, and direct APIs are made accessible for the ChatGPT Agent, and it will choose the best path of actions as per required. Notably, it will be able to filter results, run codes, as well as generate spreadsheets and slides. Additionally, the task context will also be kept ready for users throughout the steps. On Humanity’s Last Exam test, the ChatGPT Agent showcased state-of-the-art performance too in both real world and academic task evaluation

About its availability, the roll-out began yesterday on the 17th of July 2025, and it is being made available first to Pro, Plus, and Team users. All the Pro users by now will be able to access the ChatGPT Agent, while Plus and Teams users will be getting the access over the next few days. In the next few weeks, both Enterprise and Edu users will also be given the access to the ChatGPT Agent.

Speaking more, as revealed via Sam Altman himself on X, along with its capabilities, the ChatGPT Agent also has potential risk factors too. Even though there are several warnings and safeguards integrated within OpenAI’s ChatGPT Agent, users will have to be extremely cautious when working with confidential and personal matters. Wrongdoers may be able to trick the AI agents into giving the personal or private information of users, data leaks via malicious emails when the AI agent is given the access to take full actions on email accounts, and many more such issues can happen. Users are thus advised to give only minimum and the needed permissions only to the ChatGPT Agent, and must stay alert always as something could go wrong at any time if actions are not kept under control.
