OpenAI introduces a new $100/month Pro tier that offers 5x more Codex usage than Plus
Yesterday, OpenAI officially announced the launch of a new $100/month Pro tier. This tier costs almost half of the existing Pro plan ($200/month) and is said to offer 5x more Codex usage than the Plus plan.
According to the company, in ChatGPT, this new Pro tier still offers access to all Pro features, including the exclusive Pro model and unlimited access to Instant and Thinking models. To celebrate the launch of this new tier, the company is increasing Codex usage for a limited time through 31st May, so that Pro $100 subscribers get up to 10x ChatGPT Plus usage on Codex.
OpenAI has rebalanced Codex usage in the Plus plan to support more sessions throughout the week, rather than longer sessions in a single day. The Plus plan ($20/month) offers steady, day-to-day usage of Codex, and the new $100 Pro tier offers a more accessible upgrade path for heavier daily use.
OpenAI has specified that its existing $200 Pro tier still remains its highest usage option. To thank the existing Pro users on the $200 tier, the company is extending its 2x Codex usage promo (until 31st May), and Codex rate limits are also reset.

Reportedly, this new $100/month Pro tier plan challenges Anthropic, which has already introduced a $100/month option for Claude.
In a statement to TechCrunch, OpenAI said, “The new $100 Pro tier is designed to give developers more practical coding capacity for the money, especially during high-intensity work sessions where limits matter most. Compared with Claude Code, Codex delivers more coding capacity per dollar across paid tiers, with the difference showing up most clearly during active coding use.”
