Microsoft Edge’s New Copilot Mode Adds AI Tools for Task Assistance

Microsoft has rolled out Copilot Mode in its Edge browser, stepping up the AI race among web browsers. The new feature integrates AI-powered tools directly into Edge to assist users while browsing, aiming to simplify tasks like searching, summarizing, and multitasking.
A whole new way to pilot the web.

With Copilot Mode enabled, users can search, ask questions, and complete tasks using Microsoft Copilot, either by typing or with optional voice input. The AI can summarize web pages, write articles, prepare shopping lists, and even recommend recipe modifications.
If a user is comparing flights or hotels, Copilot can analyze all open tabs (with permission) to suggest the best options. For now, actions like making bookings remain manual, but Microsoft has indicated these tasks will soon be automated.
The core focus of Copilot is privacy and control. Copilot does not access browsing data unless granted explicit permission, and this access is clearly shown in the browser interface. The feature can be switched off by default and must be manually turned on by users. Although Microsoft may introduce usage limits or paid plans as the feature develops.
