New updates for Gemini in Chrome
New Side panel
There is a new Gemini side panel in Chrome that allows users to interact with Gemini while remaining on the current webpage. The side panel lets you recall the sites you visited and chats you had with Gemini. Earlier, the side panel was available to Windows and macOS users, and with this rollout, the sidebar will be available to Chromebook Plus users as well.
Auto-Browse
The second is the new Auto Browse feature, which can handle your routine tasks, keeping you in the loop. For example, you can ask Gemini to go to a particular website and shop for a particular item for you. The agent will research and shop for you, while asking for your intervention during data-sensitive tasks like logging in on a website or making a final purchase. This feature is rolling out in preview for Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers in the US.
Chrome will support Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol, a new open standard for agentic commerce co-developed with industry leaders including Shopify, Etsy, Wayfair and Target.
Nano Banana
There is also a new Nano Banana integration coming to Chrome that will allow users to create or modify an existing image without downloading files or opening another app. It is available to all Gemini in Chrome users; just type a prompt in the side panel to bring your vision to life.
Connected apps
Gemini in Chrome supports Connected apps, like integrations to Gmail, Calendar, YouTube, Maps, Google Shopping, and Google Flights. These integrations will help you get things done quickly.
Personal Intelligence
Previously, Google introduced Personal Intelligence in the Gemini app, and in the coming months, this capability will be coming to Chrome. With Personal Intelligence, you are always in control. You can opt in and choose whether to connect your apps and disconnect them at any time.
Chrome will remember context from past conversations, so you get uniquely tailored answers to whatever you’re looking for across the web, and you can already add specific instructions to Gemini to get more tailored responses.
