Google introduces Gemini for Home; Gemini app coming to TV this fall

Till now, Google Assistant has been a go-to partner in homes for managing simple tasks and getting quick answers, but yesterday at the Made by Google 2025 event, Google introduced an all-new voice assistant for the next generation of home- Gemini for Home.

Well, this was a much-awaited announcement for the Google fans who have been using Gemini on their mobile devices and wished to use the same at home.

Gemini for Home

Gemini for Home is built on the same powerful AI models as Gemini on mobiles, but it arrives with unique capabilities designed for home. It offers reliable, hands-free help and can manage complex tasks across all of your home devices, assisting every member of your household, as well as visitors and guests.

Gemini will understand the context and get it done, while rigid commands are replaced so that users can use more nuanced or complex requests, too. Here are a few ways Gemini for Home is better at assisting with daily tasks:

  • Discover and play media: Ask Gemini to “play the song of the year winner from 1990” or “play that song from this year’s summer blockbuster about race cars,” and it will help you find and play what you’re looking for from across multiple streaming platforms.
  • Access more powerful smart home controls: Conveniently issue multiple commands at once to control your home. “Dim the lights, and set the temp to 72 degrees.” Gemini can also reason through complex commands, so you can say things like “turn off the lights everywhere except my bedroom.”
  • Coordinate your home and family life: Improved natural language support for calendar creation, list creation, and timers means you can keep everything and everyone on track. Try “add the ingredients to make an authentic Italian lasagna to my shopping list” or “set a timer for perfectly blanched broccoli.” You can also ask Gemini to create a calendar event for the season premiere of your favorite show, and it will show up in your Google Calendar.
  • Ask about anything: With Gemini at the core, you quickly get answers tailored to your specific needs on an endless number of topics. You can ask “how can I keep raccoons out of my backyard at night?” or “given weather, crowds, and hotel prices, what’s the best time of year to visit the Greek islands?”

Gemini Live

Gemini Live is now coming to your home. Start a conversation with Gemini Live with “Hey Google, let’s chat” and have a natural back-and-forth discussion. You can also interrupt responses to refine or redirect the discussion, so you get the specific information you’re looking for quickly.

Gemini Live provides better help for more complex cooking challenges, lets you explore topics in-depth,  and request personalized troubleshooting, while Gemini’s generative AI capabilities make it the perfect creative partner for any moment.

Availability

It is revealed that over time, Gemini for Home will replace Google Assistant for existing speakers and displays, with free and paid versions. Google will begin early access in October and share more details soon.

Apart from this, the company has also announced that the Gemini app will be coming to TVs this fall, which means users will soon be able to give commands to Gemini on their TVs and make their viewing experience smoother.
