Qualcomm Officially Introduces its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Flagship Chip, Featuring 4.6GHz-Clocked Oryon CPU and 1.2GHz-Clocked Adreno GPU

At its recently-held Snapdragon Summit 2025 event, Qualcomm has officially introduced its next flagship chipset – the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. With improved CPU, GPU, and NPU performances, it will soon be arriving on upcoming flagship smartphone devices that are set to launch in the coming days/weeks.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 – Now Official
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip (3nm) that has now been introduced equips the brand’s own 3rd generation custom Oryon CPUs with a peak clock speed of 4.6GHz. In comparison to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 offers 20% single-core and 17% multi-core CPU performance, along with up to 35% CPU power efficiency (16% overall power savings). About its architecture, it consists of 2x 4.60GHz-clocked prime cores and 6x 3.63GHz-clocked performance cores. The support for LPDDR5X RAM that runs at 5300MHz is also given on the device.
On the GPU side, the next-generation Adreno GPU has been equipped within the device, and it is clocked at 1.2GHz. 23% increased overall performance, 20% reduced power consumption, and 25% improved Ray Tracing are its notable upgrades when compared to the previous Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. Adreno High Performance Memory (HPM), Tile Memory Heap, Mesh Shading, Unreal Engine 5, and more are also its other added features. Furthermore, a new Hexagon NPU that is 37% faster, and added AI accelerators for running the latest LLMs, are also part of the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. A 16% better performance per watt will also be delivered via the Hexagon NPU.
Regarding the camera aspects, the Qualcomm Spectra AI ISP offers Advanced Professional Video (APV) Codec, which brings features like near-loss video quality, greater control in post production, highlight and shadow adjustments, precise color grading, and many more. Also, with the triple 20-bit ISPs, 4x dynamic range is offered for the first time. Many other camera features are also supported by the chip.
Finally, speaking of its connectivity specs, a new 5G standard has been set thanks to the Snapdragon X85 5G Modem RF System that is equipped within the chipset. Additionally, Release 17 and 18 capabilities have also been given with the added 5G AI processor. FastConnect 7900 mobile connectivity system, AI-enhanced WiFi, UWB, WiFi ranging, Bluetooth Channel Sounding with Proximity AI, and support for more other specs are also given on the flagship chip.

In the coming days/weeks, smartphone brands such as Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO, OnePlus, OPPO, Realme, Honor, ZTE, Nubia, RedMagic, Vivo, iQOO, Samsung, ASUS ROG, and Sony are said to soon announce the arrival of their latest flagship smartphones and these upcoming devices will be making use of Qualcomm’s newly-introduced Snapdragon 8 Elite 5 Gen 5 chip.
