ROG Xbox Ally X with Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme and ROG Xbox Ally with Ryzen Z2 A Launching Globally on October 16

Just recently, the ROG Xbox Ally was spotted on Amazon, revealing some of its key specifications but leaving out the launch date. Rumours suggested we might hear more at Gamescom, and now the confirmation is here. Both the ROG Xbox Ally and the more powerful ROG Xbox Ally X are officially set to launch globally on October 16, 2025.

Both will be available in the US, UK, Canada, Japan, and much of Europe and Asia, with later rollouts planned for India, Brazil, Indonesia, and Thailand. In China, the Xbox Ally X will be introduced first, while the standard Ally is expected early next year.

Both devices are powered by AMD processors and run on Windows 11 with an Xbox interface. The interface provides direct access to game libraries, chats, and ROG’s Armoury Crate SE. Players can run games natively, through cloud streaming, or via Remote Play.

The standard ROG Ally uses the AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor. The ROG Ally X comes with the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip, which includes a neural processing unit (NPU). It also upgrades specifications with 1TB of storage, 24GB of RAM, an 80Wh battery, and impulse triggers.

Microsoft is also introducing a Handheld Compatibility Program that identifies titles as “Handheld Optimized” or “Mostly Compatible.” The programme will provide players with information about controls, text readability, and performance across supported games, with the list expanding over time.

AI-driven features are planned for the Ally X starting next year. These include Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR), which will use the NPU to upscale visuals and improve frame rates, as well as automatic highlight capture for gameplay clips.

Further updates are expected, including improvements to shader delivery to reduce load times and support for docking to larger displays. Microsoft has also confirmed that the ROG Raikiri II Xbox Wireless Controller will be released globally during the holiday season.
