Sony ECM-778 Shotgun Microphone: Key features revealed
A newly developed microphone capsule, machined brass acoustic tube, and refined circuitry combine to achieve pristine, neutral audio capture, fully supporting the high resolution and extended frequency response of Hi-Res audio. The microphone comes with narrow frontal directivity and smooth off-axis response. It offers a stable response over a wide distance range, which means users can capture stunning sound whether the microphone is on the camera, on a boom, or in any other type of studio installation.
Top-quality film capacitors and metal film resistors are used in the signal path to maximize sonic clarity and accuracy. A machined aluminum chassis protects the capsule from external vibration while effectively blocking electrical noise. It measures 176mm in length, can be boom mounted for recording in tight spaces, and when camera mounted, it stays out of the frame. It weighs 102g, and this compact, lightweight, high-performance microphone is ideal for just about any shooting environment.
There is an easily accessible low-cut switch on the microphone body that can be turned on to attenuate wind noise and vibration and facilitate clear, intelligible recording in any environment. It comes with foam (indoor settings) and fur type (windy outdoor situations) wind screens. Machined aluminum outer shell provides extra durability, and measures have been taken to enhance resistance to humidity.
The availability details have not yet been announced.
