Xiaomi postpones India launch of Xiaomi 17 Series and Xiaomi Pad 8 to March 11th

Earlier, we had spotted the Xiaomi Pad 8’s microsite, which had revealed that it would launch in India on March 12th. But that was soon changed, and everywhere it said that the Indian units would also launch on February 28th at MWC 2026 alongside the global launch. At that time, we thought that the listing was probably wrong. Now, Xiaomi has officially confirmed that the India launch has indeed been postponed.

Here is more to it.

Xiaomi 17 Series and Xiaomi Pad 8 – India Launch

Both the Xiaomi 17 Series and Xiaomi Pad 8 have been launched globally today, but for India, the launch date has now been extended to March 11th. Xiaomi has confirmed this via a post on X, along with updating the posters on both Xiaomi India and Amazon India’s microsites for both of the products.

Coming to the Xiaomi 17 Series, in India, it will include the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra only, not the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition, which it calls Leica Leitzphone for the global audience. Not just the name change, but the Leica Leitzphone also has a battery difference. In China, Xiaomi 17 Ultra and the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition both came with a 6800mAh battery. However, the global variant’s battery has been reduced to 6000mAh.

Even the Indian microsite now reveals almost all of the specs for the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and also confirms that the Indian variant will be getting a 6000mAh battery. Along with this, 90W HyperCharge and 50W wireless HyperCharge are also among the specs listed on it. The Indian variant will also include Xiaomi Offline communication, which can allow network-free voice calls up to 1.9 km using Bluetooth and proprietary protocols. Both the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Photography Kit and its Pro version have already been confirmed earlier for the Indian market.

Although the Xiaomi Pad 8’s Indian microsite had already revealed that it will come with Xiaomi Focus Pen Pro and Xiaomi Focus Keyboard, it now reveals more specs that match the Global /China variant. For example, it will be powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 SoC, will run on HyperOS 3 based on Android 16, and will pack a 9200mAh battery with 45W fast charging that is claimed to give up to 2 days of battery backup, and more. And just like the global variant, it is expected that Xiaomi Pad 8 will launch in two variants in India — the standard and the Matte Glass Version, which goes by the name of Soft Light variant in China.
