Vivo officially confirms Vivo S50 series launch in China for December

Vivo has now officially confirmed the launch of its next S-series smartphone for the Chinese market, skipping the S40 (as the number 4 is not considered auspicious in China) and moving directly to the Vivo S50 series. On the microsite listed on Vivo China Mall, the company confirms that the Vivo S50 series will launch in December, although an exact date has not been mentioned. The microsite also doesn’t reveal which models will be included, but according to rumours, the lineup is expected to feature the Vivo S50 and Vivo S50 Pro Mini — similar to how the S30 series arrived with the vanilla S30 and the S30 Pro Mini.

Regarding specifications, not much has been revealed officially. However, a few days ago, reliable tipster DCS, through a Weibo post, confirmed that the S50 series is expected to launch with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 SoC — a chipset yet to be announced officially by Qualcomm.

He also mentioned that the device could feature a Sony IMX882 primary rear camera. Additionally, it may include a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint 2.0 sensor for security. Further, Vivo’s Product Manager Han Boxiao has revealed that the S50 series will feature LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage with speeds of up to 9600 Mbps. He also reaffirmed the tipster’s claim that the S50 series will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 SoC. However, this new chipset is most likely intended for the S50 Pro Mini, though it remains to be seen whether it will also be included in the vanilla variant.

Finally, a Vivo smartphone was recently spotted on the 3C certification website with support for 90W fast wired charging, which is expected to belong to the S50 series itself. With the launch approaching, more official details are likely to emerge in the coming days.
