Sony’s WF-1000XM6 Launched with a new HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3e, IPX4 rating and more

The leak was true; as it turns out, Sony has officially launched the WF-1000XM6 in both the European and North American markets, including the USA and Canada.
Here is more to it.
Sony WF-1000XM6 – Specs and Features
When comparing the design to the previous WF-1000XM5, which features a cylindrical oval or “river pebble” shape with rounded sides, the WF-1000XM6’s charging case adopts a rectangular design with rounded edges, enabling one-handed opening. The earbuds themselves boast an ergonomic design that conforms to the natural contours of the ear, providing a better fit and enhanced comfort for prolonged use. Notably, approximately one-quarter of the materials used are sourced from recycled or renewable origins, rather than from new, virgin fossil-based raw materials.
Compared to the WF-1000XM5, these earbuds feature four microphones instead of three and are also 11% slimmer. Additionally, they introduce a new ventilation structure that Sony claims helps to minimise internal noises, such as footsteps and chewing. Furthermore, the earbuds are rated IPX4 for water resistance, with each earbud weighing approximately 6.5 g, while the charging case weighs around 47 g.
Furthermore, Sony has equipped the earbuds with an 8.4mm driver, which has been redesigned to feature a new “soft edge” and a “lightweight, rigid dome”. They also incorporate an in-house, newly developed HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3e, paired with an integrated processor V2 that supports 32-bit processing. Sony claims that this combination will deliver 25% better noise reduction compared to its predecessor, and it also includes an Adaptive Noise Cancelling Optimiser. Additionally, the earbuds support Hi-Res Audio Wireless and DSEE Extreme for enhanced audio reproduction.
The call quality is enhanced by a bone conduction sensor and a dual microphone system that utilises AI beamforming alongside an AI noise reduction algorithm. This combination effectively isolates your voice, even in noisy environments or when you are surrounded by other conversations.
The connectivity features include Bluetooth 5.3, offering a range of 10 metres, along with a 1.5 times larger antenna compared to its predecessor. It also supports multipoint connection and LE Audio.
The battery life provides up to 8 hours of playback with noise cancellation activated and up to 12 hours with noise cancellation turned off. However, it only offers 5 hours of call time with noise cancellation on and 5.5 hours with noise cancellation off. When using the charging case, you can achieve up to 24 hours of playback time. Each earbud requires approximately 1.5 hours to fully charge, while the charging case takes about 2 hours via USB. Furthermore, the charging case supports Qi Standard wireless charging. Nevertheless, Sony’s terms and conditions state that it may not charge properly with all charging pads.
Pricing and Availability
The Sony WF-1000XM6 is available in black and silver, priced at £250 / €300 / $330 / AU$500.
