Today, exactly two years ago, Thala and China Thala, MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina announced their retirement from international cricket. Both opted to make the news via their respective Instagram accounts.
Although, it made a huge shock to the fans of MSD, especially as he bid adieu to the game, the former skipper has won India many accolades on national and international level. Moreover, Dhoni is the only captain to win all three ICC trophies (T20 WC, ODI WC, Champions Trophy).
Raina and Dhoni were also part of India winning the 2011 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy, both the players made contribution in India’s glory.
“Thanks a lot for ur love and support throughout.from 1929 hrs consider me as Retired,” is what Dhoni wrote in a post on his official Instagram account. The retirement post was accompanied by a video highlighting moments from his storied career to the tune of Mukesh’s popular track Main Pal Do Pal Ka Shair Hoon from the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Kabhie Kabhie.
After India’s loss to New Zealand in 2019 World Cup, selectors and fans were speculating about Dhoni’s future, but just the next year, the wicketkeeper made his choice. After few mins, his CSK teammate and close friend Suresh Raina also chose to join Thala in the decision.
“With a lot of mixed feelings I’m able to make this announcement of my retirement,” Raina wrote in an Instagram post.
