Chiellini to bid adieu to international football

The Italian defender who has represented Italy in 116 games is set to retire from the game, the 37 year old was a member of the squad that lifted the European Championship in England last year. He is Italy’s fifth most capped player, making his debut in 2004, he was part of the 2006 World Cup winning team.

“I’ll say goodbye to the national team at Wembley, where I experienced the pinnacle of my career by winning the Euros,” the Juventus player said. The European Championship will be his last game on international stage where they will face Argentina at Wembley in June. However, Italy also haven’t managed to qualify for the World Cup later this year, for the second time in a row.

Although, the Italian captain has not decided on the decision whether he will continue his league career with Juventus or not, “Let’s reach fourth place first and win the Coppa Italia, then we’ll sit down with my two families – at home and Juventus to figure out what is best for everyone”, said the Italian.

Chiellini is touted as an aggressive, physical and hard tackling defender, he is also considered as one of the best defenders in world football. In the 2014 World Cup he was bitten by Uruguay player Luis Suarez on his shoulder which created a huge controversy.
