On April 1st, the Indian Navy’s first batch of MH 60R ‘Romeo’ aircrew successfully completed their training at Naval Air Station, San Diego, USA.

The 10-month course included conversion training and other advanced MH 60R helicopter qualifications.

Lockheed Martin Corporation, USA’s MH-60R helicopters are all-weather helicopters with cutting-edge avionics/sensors that can support multiple missions.

The MH-60R helicopters are capable of performing offensive and defensive missions such as anti-submarine warfare, anti-ship strike, low intensity maritime operations, search and rescue, over-the-horizon network centric operations, and electronic warfare.

The MH-60Rs are a replacement for the Sea King 42/42A helicopters, which were decommissioned in the 1990s, and are designed to operate from frontline ships and aircraft carriers, giving them the critical attributes of operational flexibility, enhanced surveillance, and attacking capability.
