Top Gun: Maverick beat up Doctor Strange on box office

Tom Cruise starring Top Gun: Maverick has earned some more goodies to the films name, the Paramount production made an extra $30.5 million in its fifth weekend of domestic release.

With this, Top Gun: Maverick is the biggest global grosser and biggest domestic grosser of 2022, the film is the first non fantasy actioner to top the domestic summer box office since Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible II in the year 2000.

The biggest reason to celebrate is that the film earned over $1 billion without releasing in China or Russia, which are two major markets.

According to Paramount, repeat customers and Imax screens have been fueling momentum in the past weeks since its release. 16% of the North American crowds returned more than once and 4% more than thrice and even more.

The movie is directed by Joseph Kosinski and it stars Tom Cruise as the main lead, the second part of the film has come after a span of 35 years. Cruise will next be seen in Mission Impossible 7 and 8 which will be releasing in 2023 and 2024 respectively. The are the sequels to the franchise of the film Mission Impossible.
