The planned American superhero movie, Madame Web, created by Columbia Pictures and Di Bonaventura Pictures, is based on the same-named Marvel Comics heroine. It is supposed to be the sixth installment in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe and is going to be released by Sony Pictures Releasing (SSU). Dakota Johnson plays the title character in the movie, which is being directed by S. J. Clarkson based on a script by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama.

In September 2019, Sony engaged Sharpless and Sazama to create the screenplay for its shared universe’s Madame Web movie. Johnson was cast in early 2022, and Clarkson joined the project in May 2020. Additional castings took place in the months that followed. Beginning in mid-July 2022, filming took place in Boston and throughout Massachusetts until September, followed by filming in New York City and Mexico, with an expected completion date of mid-October.

On July 11, 2022, principal filming began in Boston’s Financial District and ran until July 14, with scenes simulating New York City in the 2000s, including Chinatown and Manhattan.
