The full Netflix 2023 film lineup has been previewed, and among the highlights is a first look at some of Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon, which is likely the streamer’s most eagerly anticipated future release. The film releases on December 22 on Netflix.
We get our first look at Sofia Boutella’s starring role in the teaser photo. The actress from Star Trek Beyond will portray “a young woman with a secret history who seeks out warriors from neighbouring planets to aid a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy take a stand against the oppressive Regent Balisarius.” We also have an intriguing sneak peek at some video, in which Charlie Hunnam draws his gun and Djimon Hounsou’s character rallies the men for fight.
Ori Marmur, who oversees Netflix’s original studio picture group, stated in the movie’s press event , “This is a film that he’s had in mind for decades. As you know, he’s spent so much time working on other people’s IP at other studios. We worked with him on “Army of the Dead” and we did things that others couldn’t do. We made a film and then a prequel and launched a live experience. With “Rebel Moon” he wanted to push the envelope again. When we saw how big the world he created was we thought it would be better served as two pieces versus one film. It’s the kind of story that can continue to grow. He thinks of it as his take on making something like Star Wars.”
