Aquaman Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet Announce Split After Nearly 5 Years of Marriage

Momoa, 42, posted a joint statement on Instagram on Wednesday announcing their split. (Bonet, who is 54, is not on social media.)

“We’ve all felt the pressure and upheavals that have come with these transformative times… Our family is no exception to the revolution that is taking place… feeling and growing as a result of the tectonic processes that are taking place, “According to the joint declaration, “As a result, we’ve informed our family that we’re divorcing.”

“We disclose this not because we believe it’s noteworthy,” the statement said, “but so that we can live our lives with dignity and honesty.” “Our love continues to evolve in ways that it wishes to be recognised and lived. We give each other permission to be the people we’re learning to be…”

The declaration came to this conclusion: “Our unshakeable commitment to our children’s precious lives. Instilling in our youngsters a sense of possibility. Practicing the Prayer J & L: May Love Prevail.”

Momoa also included many photographs in his post, including one of a sunset sky, another of a person cradling a newborn bird while wearing a shirt that reads “May my soul yell love,” and a close-up of the hands holding the young bird.

Momoa and Bonet’s representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment from PEOPLE.

The couple began dating in 2005 after mutual acquaintances met them at a jazz club.

“We simply happened to be in the right place at the right time,” Momoa said during an interview on The Late Late Show with James Corden about his first date with Bonet.

“I had hated doing my hair for her. I wore my hair in dreadlocks, and she wore hers in dreadlocks. ‘I’m Lisa,’ she says as I practically spin around and see her. I [pretended to scream] as I turned around to face my companion. Inside, I had f—ing fireworks going off, guy “‘At the moment,’ he added. “Because I was staying in a motel, I persuaded her to drive me home.”

They ended up having dinner together at Cafe 101, where Momoa claims they hit it off.

He continued, “We sat down, she ordered a Guinness, and that was all.” “Guinness is one of my favourite beers. Guinness and grits were on the menu, and the rest is history.”
