Actor Salman Khan issued gun license for self-protection

After receiving death threats last month, Bollywood Superstar, Salman Khan has been issued an arms license for self-protection by the Mumbai Police.

A senior IPS officer confirms that the license was printed recently after the actor met Mumbai police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar regarding his weapon license application.

Salman submitted his application soon after the threat letter was found outside his residence in Bandra. The death threat was purportedly issued by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

According to the procedure, the file was sent to the office of the deputy commissioner of police (zone 9) for verification and also to check the criminal record. Once the document verification and background check were cleared, looking at the seriousness of the threat the police headquarters cleared the file, officials added.

Salman’s representative collects the license from the firearm license branch in the police headquarters. The officials further said that the license was given after taking the acknowledgment of the person.

On July 22, the actor appeared before Mumbai police commissioner Vivek Phansalkar and the meeting went on almost half an hour after which the licensing process was finished.
