7 Must-watch hacking movies of all time

Hacking has always been a subject of interest and intrigue. The mysterious world of codes and data has captured the interest of filmmakers on many occasions, and there have been some brilliant movies about the subject that have been made. Here are 7 classics that are too good to miss.
- GoldenEye (1995)
A true classic James Bond film, and also the first to star Pierce Brosnan as the Bond. In this movie, Bond travels to Russia to stop a former colleague from forming a crime syndicate. The villain steals satellite-based nuclear weapons, and Bond must stop him from ruling the earth using cyberspace.

No list about sci-fi and hacking movies is complete without mention of The Matrix. This dystopian sci-fi film depicts all of humanity being unknowingly trapped inside the Matrix. The Matrix is a simulated reality created by intelligent machines that distract them, while they use humans as an energy source. Neo, played by Keanu Reeves, is a computer programmer who realises this, and joins forces with other likeminded people to save humankind.
3. Catch Me If You Can (2002)
The movie is loosely based on the life of Frank Abagnale, who was an American consultant and known as a con man. Steven Spielberg was so intrigued by his deceptions and techniques that he made this hit film starring big names like Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks. The storyline has everything you would expect from a sci-fi crime thriller, forgery, embezzlement and an FBI agent determined to put an end to Abagnale’s scams.
4. Mickey Virus (2013)
If you are looking for a movie about hacking that still has an element of comedy and humour, this Bollywood movie is the one for you to watch. Mickey, a small-time hacker agrees to help his love interest by hacking into her company’s website to reverse a transaction. The plot thickens when he accidentally ends up committing theft worth Rs 100 crore.
5. Anonymous/Hacker (2016)
When a young Ukrainian immigrant and his family are experiencing financial problems, he turns to hacking to support them. However, when the FBI’s most wanted hacker, currently in hiding, approaches him, things begin to escalate. The film is based on real-life events.
