Oppo licenses its cellular standard-essential patents portfolio to AUDI

Yesterday, Oppo officially announced that it has signed a global patent licensing agreement with AUDI AG to license Oppo’s cellular standard-essential patents portfolio to the group, including 5G. This is done to support enhanced connectivity and user experiences in its global lineup of connected devices.
“We are delighted to collaborate with Audi through this patent licensing agreement,” said Vincent Lin, Head of Patent Licensing at OPPO. “This partnership reflects the shared vision between wireless technology leaders and the automotive industry to advance seamless connectivity and drive cross-industry cooperation. It also demonstrates OPPO’s ongoing commitment to the balanced and sustainable global IP ecosystem that encourages innovation and industry growth.”
“Our agreement with OPPO demonstrates that licensing negotiations for Standard Essential Patents can be approached in a constructive and balanced way,” said Michael Fritz, Chief IP Licensing Officer of Audi.
Till September 2025, Oppo has filed over 117,000 patent applications and holds more than 65,000 granted patents globally. Now this agreement with Audi marks Oppo’s third bilateral patent licensing agreement with a major automotive manufacturer. This demonstrates the growing recognition of Oppo’s cellular SEP portfolio in the automotive sector.
According to LexisNexis IPlytics, Oppo has ranked eighth globally in overall 5G patent strength as of January 2025. Oppo has mentioned that it will continue to collaborate openly with industry partners to drive innovation across connected devices and mobility ecosystems.
