Foxconn hires around 30,000 staff in just 8-9 months at its iPhone assembly unit near Bengaluru; Marking fastest ramp-up by any factory in India

The Taiwan-based electronic company Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., known as Foxconn, has reportedly hired 30,000 workers in just 8-9 months at its iPhone assembly unit, Devanahalli near Bengaluru.

According to The Economic Times, the staff hired contains mostly young women (19-24). This rapid hiring is said to be the fastest ramp-up by any in India so far. It is said that the facility, spread over 300 acres, is primarily run by women, accounting for around 80% of the headcount, with most in their first jobs, while several women have also migrated from Karnataka.

The facility started testing production in April-May this year with the iPhone 16 and now makes the latest iPhone 17 Pro Max models. More than 80% of the production is said to be exported. It is revealed that this iPhone assembly unit will be accommodating 50,000 staff when it reaches peak production next year.

With this planned expansion next year, the facility is expected to house more women workers in a single location than any government or private entity in India. As per the report, the average salary for these workers is around s 18,000 per month.

It is said that the Devanahalli facility is designed to function like a mini township that includes schools, residential facilities, healthcare services, and entertainment within the premises.

With an investment of Rs 20,000 crore, this factory is set to become India’s largest factory both in terms of production capacity and employment when fully completed. It has a production floor space of nearly 250,000 sq ft. and is expected to surpass Foxconn’s first iPhone facility in Tamil Nadu, which currently hires 41,000 workers.

This rapid growth in Foxconn’s hiring in its new factory shows the importance of the Indian industry in the market and also reflects Apple’s commitment to diversifying its supply chain beyond China.
