Ola Electric becomes India’s first automotive OEM to receive government certification for in-house developed ferrite motor

At its Sankalp 2025 event, Ola Electric unveiled its ferrite motor that eliminates the use of rare-earth materials. The certification has been granted by the Global Automotive Research Centre, Tamil Nadu, after the ferrite motor underwent rigorous performance verification and mandatory power tests as per AIS 041 standards notified by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Reportedly, during testing, the motor matched the performance of rare-earth permanent magnet motors for the 7kW and 11kW variants.
Ferrite motor removes rare-earth dependence, de-risks supply chain, lowers costs, and strengthens India’s long-term technology independence. As per the CEO, this certification marks another step toward building deep engineering capability and ensuring that Ola’s EV future is designed, developed, and manufactured in India.
After receiving the certification, Ola’s ferrite motor is now expected to be integrated across Ola’s product lineup, enhancing affordability, sustainability, and performance for the Indian consumers.
