BSNL has announced several new initiatives as part of its Independence Day celebrations in India, and among them is a new Fibre Freedom broadband plan offering up to 200Mbps speeds, 5,000GB data and access to over 25 OTT platforms. Along with this, the company has also introduced its revamped Selfcare app and announced a new partnership with Polycab for indigenous telecom manufacturing.

Read more about these below.

BSNL Fibre Freedom Plan – Specs and Benefits

Starting with the new broadband offering, BSNL has introduced the Fibre Freedom Plan at a special launch price of INR 1,111 per month. Under the plan, users get internet speeds of up to 200Mbps along with 5,000GB of monthly data.

Another major highlight of this plan is the bundled entertainment offering, as users will get access to more than 25 premium OTT platforms with a single connection. Some of the platforms shown by BSNL include JioHotstar, Sony LIV, ZEE5, Lionsgate Play, ShemarooMe, Hungama, EPIC ON, Chaupal, hoichoi, WAVES Premium, ManoramaMAX, FanCode, NammaFlix and Dollywood Play, among others.

BSNL Fibre Freedom Plan

Apart from this, the plan also offers 24×7 unlimited calling to any number across India, while a dual-band Wi-Fi ONT is included with the connection.

Speaking of the offer, this plan otherwise costs INR 1,199 per month, but BSNL is currently offering an INR 88 discount every month for six months, bringing its monthly price down to INR 1,111 during the offer period.

BSNL Launches New Selfcare App

Apart from the new broadband offer, BSNL has also revamped its Selfcare mobile app as part of its digital transformation efforts. Called BSNL Selfcare New, the app has been introduced on both Android and iOS platforms and is aimed at providing users with a smoother and easier way to manage their BSNL services.

Users can make prepaid recharges, pay postpaid, landline and FTTH bills, register and track complaints, manage DND preferences, check payment history and even place Fibre booking requests directly through the app.

BSN Selfcare App

Furthermore, BSNL has also added AI chatbot support, voice search, multiple-account management and access to BSNL Entertainment TV within the new Selfcare app.

The app is available through both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

BSNL Partners With Polycab for Make in India Telecom Manufacturing

Lastly, BSNL has announced a new partnership with Polycab aimed at advancing indigenous telecom manufacturing under the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.

At the centre of this collaboration is Polycab’s Electronic Manufacturing Services or EMS facility, which will be used for assembling and manufacturing telecom and networking equipment in India. Products mentioned as part of the partnership include cameras, ONTs, routers and other networking equipment.

BSNL – POLYCAB

Another interesting thing about this partnership is the use of a Hardware-as-a-Service (HaaS) model. Through this, BSNL aims to assist in deploying scalable, cost-effective and future-ready infrastructure without requiring heavy upfront investment.

The partnership is also aimed at strengthening domestic manufacturing, improving supply-chain self-reliance and further developing India’s telecom ecosystem.

With the new Fibre Freedom broadband offer, revamped Selfcare app and Polycab partnership, BSNL has announced multiple consumer and infrastructure-focused initiatives as part of its Independence Day celebrations.

Airtel appears to have silently removed three of its prepaid recharge plans from two of its telecom circles for now, and certain reports further suggest that the operator could soon discontinue these plans in other regions as well.

Read more about the update below.

Airtel Reportedly Removes Three Prepaid Plans

According to tipster Sanju Choudhary, Airtel has removed its INR 299, INR 579, and INR 619 prepaid recharge plans from the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand telecom circles. Following this, users in these regions will reportedly no longer be able to recharge with these plans.

Considering the operator’s previous changes, it is being speculated that these recharge plans could gradually be removed from other telecom circles as well. Airtel may reportedly restructure its prepaid portfolio around plans offering monthly, quarterly, and yearly validity periods.

Airtel removed INR 299, INR 579 and INR 619 Plans

In addition to this, another prepaid tariff hike of around 10 to 12 per cent is reportedly expected in the coming days. However, Airtel has not officially announced the nationwide discontinuation of these plans or confirmed an upcoming tariff revision.

At the moment, Airtel’s general prepaid voucher terms continue to mention the INR 299, INR 579, and INR 619 price points. Therefore, their removal appears to be limited to the Uttar Pradesh (West) and Uttarakhand circle for now.

More details could be revealed if Airtel extends these changes to additional telecom circles or officially announces its revised prepaid portfolio.

Stay tuned for more updates!

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) yesterday released its Telecom subscription report for June 2026. According to the report, the total number of wireless (mobile and Fixed Wireless access) subscribers increased from 1,294.46 million (at the end of May 2026) to 1,300.25 million (at the end of June 2026).

Telecom subscription report for June 2026

The report revealed that among the telecom companies in India, Bharti Airtel added 2.9 million mobile subscribers this month, followed by Jio with 2.1 million new mobile subscribers; Vodafone Idea added 163,757 mobile subscribers, while BSNL was at the lowest with 94,006 new mobile subscribers. But MTNL saw a decline of 11,284 mobile subscribers this month.

Other than mobile subscribers, Airtel had 173,000 new fixed-line connections, and Jio had 144,000 new fixed-line connections

These figures show that Airtel was able to attract more consumers last month. The telecom subscriber base in India increased marginally to 1.348 billion in June, driven by net additions of subscribers on Airtel and Jio networks.

Apart from this, the total number of broadband subscribers increased from 1080.15 million (at the end of May 2026) to 1087.50 million (at the end of June 2026). The number of wireless subscribers decreased from 48.64 million (at the end of May 2026) to 47.82 million (at the end of June 2026). While the number of M2M cellular mobile connections increased from 131.11 million (at the end of May 2026) to 134.73 million (at the end of June 2026).

The Indian telecom operator BSNL, also known as Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, has now launched its very first satellite phone in the Indian market. The newly-launched device has been introduced to offer reliable communication in regions where conventional mobile networks are not available.

Read more about it below.

BSNL Satellite Phone – Communication Beyond Boundaries

The BSNL Satellite Phone has been introduced with the tagline “Communication Beyond Boundaries”, and just like any other satellite smartphone, it is also aimed at offering dependable connectivity in remote, difficult, and emergency situations.

Talking about its use, well, this one has been made for defence, maritime, disaster response, mining, remote operations, pilgrims, and adventure travel.

Speaking of its features, BSNL states that this handset offers crystal-clear voice calls and also comes with SOS emergency support. Additionally, the device features a rugged and durable design, making it suitable for harsh outdoor environments and remote working conditions.

Other notable key specs of the device include a long-lasting battery, though an exact battery size isn’t mentioned by the brand. While the exact specs and availability details have not been mentioned, looking at the device shown in the poster, it appears to be the Inmarsat IsatPhone 2 Satellite Phone.

Regarding the pricing, the BSNL Satellite Phone has been launched in India at a price of INR 1,34,166, inclusive of all taxes.

Stay tuned for more updates.
