Amazon Leo Aviation Antenna

Amazon Leo is preparing to provide fast, reliable internet connectivity to a wide variety of customers, using satellites in low Earth Orbit to deliver high speeds and low latency across land, sea and skies.

While Amazon Leo Aviation Antenna has numerous design features to increase aircraft and airline operational efficiency, the most noticeable impact will be on passengers and crew connecting to the Amazon Leo network, whether that’s at cruising altitude or parked at the gate.

Its full-duplex phased array technology delivers simultaneous speeds of up to 1 Gbps download and 400 Mbps uploads while users are aboard the aircraft. A single Amazon Leo Aviation Antenna provides enough bandwidth for premium connectivity experiences across every seat class, while the airline crew can use it to improve the passenger experience operations using near-real-time information.

This antenna features some of the same core technology that powers the Leo Ultra antenna. Aviation customers will install the antenna on the exterior airframe, and the antenna will use aviation-grade connectors to link to aircraft power systems and communicate with interior systems.

The antenna’s low-profile measures 58 inches long, 30 inches wide, and 2.6 inches high (147 by 76 by 6.6cm), minimizing added aircraft drag and fuel consumption. Its simple design with an integrated modem and streamlined mounting allows for single-day installation.

As aircraft fly overhead at 580 miles per hour, the antenna connects to Amazon’s network by establishing a link to a passing Amazon Leo satellite in low Earth Orbit. It then simultaneously hands off that link from one satellite to another as the aircraft and satellites move relative to each other.

From there, the satellite communicates with Amazon’s network of gateway antennas on the ground, each of which uses its global fiber network to reach the nearest AWS edge location and then onward to the internet, a customer’s resources on AWS or another cloud provider, or a customer’s private network.

It is revealed that Amazon Leo is building more than 300 ground gateways around the world to reduce network latency and enhance resilience.

“We’ve thought through every aspect of aviation operations to build an antenna and a service that deliver performance, reliability, and efficiency—and that shows in the Amazon Leo Aviation Antenna and the industry’s response to our technology,” Trevor Vieweg, director of global business for Amazon Leo, said. “We’re thrilled to have agreements in place already with Delta and JetBlue based on the strength of our initial offering, and it’s only going to get better from here as we innovate together with our customers.”

In the coming months, the company will share more details of its in-flight connectivity solution.

— TRAI (@TRAI) April 8, 2026

Earlier, TRAI issued instructions for the telecom companies to introduce SMS and voice-only packs for consumers who don’t need internet benefits. It is now noted that while Telecom Service Providers offer Special Tariff Vouchers (STVs) with Voice, SMS and Data across multiple validity periods, corresponding options exclusively for Voice and SMS are not made available for the same validities.

This led consumers who do not require data to buy the bundled packs containing data. Therefore, TRAI has proposed that the service provider shall offer Special Tariff Vouchers, exclusively for Voice and SMS, with the validity period corresponding to each validity period of Special Tariff vouchers being offered by them for Voice, SMS and data, whether with or without value-added services.

Also, such Voice and SMS STVs shall be priced with a largely proportional reduction in tariff compared to STVs of corresponding validity with SMS, Voice and data.

Currently, this is only a draft proposal, and feedbacks are open till 28th April. If this draft gets approval, then consumers will get to see more recharge options, and plans without data benefits will be cheaper, which means it could be a big move for consumers.

Before coming to this new feature, let’s talk about the concern addressed with this feature. Many of us have switched to recharging our devices online, but there have still been instances where we need to go to the recharge stores to get the recharge done (especially in rural areas). But lately, there have been ongoing concerns of leakage of customer contact numbers, resulting in harassment over calls or messages.

To reduce the chances of such misuse, BSNL has come up with the “Kavach Number” feature that allows women subscribers to recharge their mobile numbers at physical stores without revealing their numbers to the retailer. This feature aims to help women keep their numbers private and reduce the risk of unwanted contact.

What is the BSNL Kavach Number?

This is a 10-digit alternate number linked to the user’s actual mobile number. Once activated, the Kavach number will be received by the user via SMS. This number can be shared at the recharge stores instead of the real phone number, and the recharge can be done for the main account.

It works like a shield for women’s phone numbers, reducing the risk of their personal details being exposed.

How does it work?

You can activate the Kavach feature by calling customer service at 1800 180 1503 or 1500 from your BSNL number

After connecting with a customer care executive, you can request activation of the Kavach number

Once activated, you will receive the Kavach number via SMS

You can now share this number at recharge outlets to recharge your mobile

Do note that the Kavach number expires after some time, which means you will have to generate it every time you want to recharge your SIM.

This feature allows your phone to stay connected even when there is no cellular signal or Wi-Fi (like in the middle of a desert or ocean).

In that press release, Samsung mentions that it is partnering with major cell phone carriers (like T-Mobile and Verizon) and satellite companies (like Starlink) to let Galaxy phones send messages and data via satellites. Now, some may ask, what is the use of it? Well, you can call for help or use text emergency services if you are stranded in a place with no signal. In some places, like Japan, it can even provide early earthquake and tsunami warnings.

For those who don’t know, on select Galaxy flagship and Galaxy A series smartphones, Samsung has been supporting satellite communication since 2025, which now extends to even the recently launched Galaxy S26 Series smartphones. Furthermore, older Galaxy flagships will be compatible with satellite communication, including those launched after the Galaxy S21, along with some Galaxy A series smartphones.

Talking about the rollout, it is going to be done in phases:

In North America, Samsung is working with T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T. Samsung has partnered with AT&T to support satellite communication features on Galaxy smartphones. T-Mobile supports satellite-based T911 (T-Satellite service, which allows users to send text messages to 911 via Starlink satellites), along with text and data services through its collaboration with Starlink, and this has been available on select Galaxy A and Galaxy S phones since 2025. Verizon offers emergency SOS (eSOS) and text services on supported Galaxy flagship models, including the Galaxy S25 Series and the newly launched Galaxy S26 Series.

In Europe, Samsung is collaborating with Virgin Media O2 in the United Kingdom to bring satellite connectivity to Galaxy S25 and S26 Series smartphones. Along with this, Samsung is also working with MasOrange in Spain, where joint trials are scheduled to begin in March, and is also collaborating with Vodafone to enable satellite communications across compatible Galaxy devices in the region.

In Japan, the company is partnering with KDDI, SoftBank, Docomo and Rakuten Mobile to expand satellite-based text, data and emergency alert services across compatible Galaxy devices. Satellite-based data, texting, and tsunami warning (ETWS) services have been available on Galaxy S22 (and newer) and select Galaxy A phones on KDDI’s network since 2025.

Airtel has been introducing new ways to protect its users from falling into the trap of fraudsters, like spam-call warnings and DNS-based traffic-level security filters.

Today, the telecom company has officially unveiled a new method to combat the menace of spam, an AI-powered Fraud Alert that will protect customers against the rapidly growing One-Time-Password (OTP)-related bank frauds.

Lately, we have heard cases where fraudsters act as delivery agents and dupe users into sharing OTPs for the successful delivery of their parcel. And if a user shares the OTP received, it leads them to face banking fraud. To avoid OTP leakages, Airtel’s new AI-powered Fraud Alert identifies such potentially risky situations and warns the customers involved. Whenever a bank OTP is detected during a potentially risky incoming call, Airtel intervenes with a fraud alert check to the customer about the potential risk of giving consent for a banking transaction OTP to be delivered while they are still on the call.

This protection gives customers the time to think, verify, and stay firmly in control of their security and avoid financial scams. Regarding the introduction of this new feature, Shashwat Sharma, MD & CEO, Airtel, India, said, “Our newly developed, AI-powered, autonomous solution operates proactively at the network level and is engineered to detect and intervene against fraudulent activity in real-time. Extensive trials have demonstrated a remarkable level of accuracy and impact in preventing the menace of such scams.”

This AI-powered Fraud Alert Protection is already live in Haryana, and Airtel will roll it out to 100% of its customers over the next two weeks.

Under this ₹349 plan, users get unlimited 4G/5G data with no speed restrictions based on time or daily usage. That said, the plan comes with a Fair Usage Policy (FUP) limit of 300GB. Once this limit is exhausted, data speeds are reduced to 64kbps, in line with Vi’s FUP guidelines.

This plan is not available across all telecom circles. At present, it is available only in the following regions:

Himachal Pradesh

Jammu & Kashmir

North East Circle

Odisha

In addition to unlimited data, the plan includes unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS per day. After the daily SMS limit is exceeded, charges apply at Re 1 per local SMS and Re 1.5 per STD SMS.

The ₹349 Non-Stop Hero plan comes with a validity of 28 days, and the 300GB FUP data limit is also calculated over the same 28-day period, not 30 days.
