TikTok sued by Vietnam-based VNG Corporation over copyright infringement

VNG Corporation, a Vietnam-based technology firm, is suing TikTok, which is owned by a Beijing-based tech company called ByteDance, citing it does not have adequate licences for the songs being used in its videos.

VNG Corporation, also known for its online games, music streaming as well as messaging applications, has accused the Chinese-owned company of using audio tracks owned by Zing, a VNG subsidiary, without the company’s consent, Reuters reported.

TikTok, the popular short-form video app, has soared in popularity in Vietnam with millions of short-clip uploads to the platform, official data showed.
