Social media platform Reddit hit by outages- DownDetector

Saturday morning was a confusing day for Redditors in the United States. The social media platform, recently in the news for the manipulation of Gamestop stock, experienced some issues, according to downdetector.com.

Customers reported trouble logging in and sending messages on its website. A few regions in the US, like New York, Washington and Boston and Toronto in Canada, reported experiencing such issues.

Reddit said in an email statement that it was not tracking any issues with the website anymore, according to a Reuters report.

“We did have some issues with higher error rates this week … It meant slower load times for some users but we were never hard down,” a Reddit spokeswoman said in an emailed statement.

As mentioned before, Reddit has come been in the news after a subreddit on its platform, “r/wallstreetbets,” led to a so-called “Reddit rally,” which has helped attract a flood of retail cash into stocks such as GameStop Corp, burning hedge funds that had bet against the company and roiling the broader market. Wallstreetbets has around 6 million members as of now and is growing considerably.
